President's Message
David A. Kelly, President & CEO
Go TEAM North Clackamas!
Did you enjoy the Olympics? Being in the midst of moving here from upstate New York, I didn't watch as much as I would have liked, but I did catch several events. I love the swimming and track relays, because they turn competitors into teammates. I love the relays because they are just like a chamber of commerce. Your Chamber is effective because its members realize that "Together Everyone Achieves More (TEAM)". We may not win a gold medal like members of a Team USA relay team, but we all benefit from creating a unified voice for the business community, providing networking opportunities, supporting training and educational forums, and creating advertising and promotion opportunities. Please let me know if you have additional ideas about how your business can benefit from teaming with the 500 other members of Your Chamber. Go TEAM North Clackamas!

TriMet's First Step program provides at-risk youth with a win-win situation
Trevon enjoys the pay check - and the exercise. Kelsie calls it character-building. DaJonique says she's learning how to treat others with respect. Jolicia likes the opportunity to give back to her community. Eduardo says it's helping him get physically fit. Each summer, TriMet's First Step program gives a group of local kids a step in the right direction. Trevon, Kelsie, DaJonique, Jolicia and Eduardo are among the 20 kids taking part in the 14th annual program this summer, which they describe as a win-win. It's an intensive ten-week program that provides at-risk youth with a summer job. They receive a transit pass and are paid minimum wage, working up to 40 hours per week. The benefits don't end there.

Brightwood Loop Road to close Aug. 27-Oct. 10 for Salmon River Bridge painting
The bridge that carries Brightwood Loop Road over the Salmon River will be closed 24 hours a day beginning Monday, August 27, until Wednesday, October 10, so Clackamas County can paint the underside of the structure. Brightwood Loop Road (but not the bridge) will be open to local and emergency traffic. Signs will mark the detour route, which will be on Highway 26. Emergency service providers, schools and other regular users of the roadway have been notified about the closure. The top of the Salmon River Bridge was repainted by County Transportation Maintenance staff earlier this summer, but a contractor is being brought in to paint the underside of the bridge because of the need for specialized scaffolding. For more information, contact Vince Hall, project manager, at vincehal@co.clackamas.or.us or 503.742.4650.
