Beware of Oregon business filing notice
Recent reports to Better Business Bureau (BBB) indicate that Corporate Regulatory Committee , based in Salem, Ore., is sending official-looking "Corporate Annual Report" notices to businesses requesting $238 to renew filings with Oregon Secretary of State.
Business owners are not required to reply or submit money to Corporate Regulatory Committee.

Survey assesses public opinions on Oregon's spending and policy issues
Surveys of the general public's opinions about the economy, state spending, and policy issues were conducted by DHM Research in March and September 2011 and again in January 2012. Results show 42% believe Oregon is headed in the right direction, up 10% from six months ago. However only 6% reported that they were very optimistic that the legislature and Governor will be able to make significant progress on the key issues facing or state during the 2012 legislative session. Your Chamber will be monitoring the issues for the 2012 legislative session to keep you informed of matters that could affect your business. For the full survey, click here.

Foundation fundraiser supports future leader
Flyer required for Foundation to benefit
 A $1000 scholarship could make the difference whether a high school senior attends college. The Chamber's separate 501(c)(3) non-profit, the North Clackamas County Chamber of Commerce Community Foundation aims to develop our future leaders by hosting a fundraiser at California Pizza Kitchen on February 28 & 29 from Noon - 9 PM. All dine-in and carry out food or beverages will earn the Foundation 20% of proceeds that will fund a scholarship. One senior who has graduated from the Clackamas County Young Leader's Project will be eligible to apply for the scholarship this spring. Download the fundraiser flier that is required for the Foundation to benefit and you are good to go.

Bob's Red Mill hires replacement for CFO
 Bob's Red Mill Natural Foods, Inc. has hired John McCormick to succeed their retiring chief financial officer, John Wagner, who is retiring from the position he has held since 1993. Eleven years ago McCormick began working with Rob's Red Mill as outside legal counsel. He is also a certified public accountant.

The Milwaukie Bomber needs your support
 For decades, a B-17G sitting atop what was once a gas station has been one of Milwaukie's most talked about, and perhaps most visited, icons. But these days the famous airplane, dubbed the "Lacey Lady," is deteriorating fast - and the owners realize that, if they want to preserve this unique piece of local history, something has to be done. And so the non-profit Wings of Freedom Project was born - an effort to return the Lacey Lady to her original condition and preserve both a part of World War II history and the community's longstanding icon. It's a project that will take time, though, and a lot of hard work and patience.

FREE Notary Public Educational Seminar
The Secretary of State continues to offer notary seminars to the public free of charge. This year, the Notary Education Program is coming to Wilsonville on March 15, 2012. The information presented at this seminar not only covers the rules and regulations for Oregon Notaries, it also explains how to properly identify the signer, what to record in your journal, as well as what requirements are needed to create a proper Oregon Notarial Certificate. It's never too late to prepare!
FREE CERT Course to be held March 3rd and 10th  Officials agree that the Pacific NW is due for a large earthquake on par with those that recently hit Japan. Terrorist attacks are a real threat. Chemical spills in the course of transport happen despite industry standards and mandatory precautions. In addition to these emergencies, personal disasters such as house fires occur across the country every 80 seconds. These are all real risks for each of us. The good news is it is never too late to prepare. Preparation empowers individuals, households, and entire communities to anticipate, respond to, and successfully recover from a personal or large scale disaster. An excellent-and locally available-first step in preparing yourself is to take a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) class such as the being offered by the Sandy Fire District .

The American Legion Post #180, Milwaukie Public Safety Foundation and the Public Safety Advisory Committee invite you to attend the Award Dinner and Presentation to the Officer of the Year 2011 Larry Giddings, and Cadet of the Year 2011 Colby Taylor. Dinner will be held on Wednesday, March 21st, at the American Legion on Monroe Street. Reception starts at 6pm with dinner served at 7pm.
