The recent State of the Cities luncheon at the lovely Aerie at Eagle Landing gave members a chance to see why the Chamber needs to be more involved as the voice for business with region's cities. As the economy wakes from its doldrums, the region's cities are where we see the first stirrings of business development. Happy Valley is seeing new businesses move into town.

Want business connections? You're headed in the right direction!
Join fellow chamber members on February 1, 2012 from 11:45-1pm at the Chamber office located at 7740 SE Harmony Road, Milwaukie OR 97222. Chamber 101 is designed for new members as well as members who are looking to get more out of their chamber membership. Learn how your business can gain exposure, support the community and become involved in governmental and public policy issues. In addition, you'll have the opportunity to meet and talk with leaders in your chamber, talk with members and the CEO of your chamber and connect with other members to create important business contacts. A light lunch will be provided and registration is required.

Winner to be announced February 3rd - a few tickets left. Tickets can be purchased by phone. Your Chamber has kicked off its Sweet Heart Package Travelling Raffle. This year's package, valued at more than $1200, includes a fabulous amethyst ring from LaRog Brothers, one night in a Jacuzzi suite at Oxford Suites, a three month Executive Family Membership at East Side Athletic Club, a large floral arrangement from Stargazer Baskets and Blooms, a chocolate martini gift basket from Dove Chocolatiers (including four martini glasses) and a gift card to McGrath's Fish House. Tickets are $10 a piece or three for $25 and only 200 tickets will be sold! They will be available at the Chamber office and at every event from now till the first week of February. Anne McCallister, owner of "Inside the Box Organizing" will be delivering a presentation at Women In Networking that will touch on the direct roll time plays in dealing with clutter and disorganization. Non- chamber members welcome. The event will be held on Thursday, February 9, 2012 from 11:15am - 1:00pm at the Clackamas Banquet & Catering Center. The event is sponsored by Marylhurst University. Support future leaders through Foundation Scholarship Flyer required for Foundation to benefit
A $1000 scholarship could make the difference whether a high school senior attends college. The Chamber's separate 501(c)(3) non-profit, the North Clackamas County Chamber of Commerce Community Foundation aims to develop our future leaders by hosting a fundraiser at California Pizza Kitchen on February 28 & 29 from Noon - 9 PM. All dine-in and carry out food or beverages will earn the Foundation 20% of proceeds that will fund a scholarship. One senior who has graduated from the Clackamas County Young Leader's Project will be eligible to apply for the scholarship this spring. Chambers from throughout the state invited to Capitol
Register now for Chamber Day at the Capitol
Chambers of Commerce throughout Oregon have an opportunity to make a strong showing and speak on behalf of business at the 2012 Chamber Day at the Capitol, sponsored by the Oregon State Chamber of Commerce. This will be a day for board members, committee chairs and community leaders to advocate for strong local economies throughout the state. Geocache challenge benefits local economy
North Clackamas Chamber of Commerce in partnership with Clackamas County Tourism & Cultural Affairs presents Geocache Challenge 2012! We are in the initial planning stages so look for upcoming announcements with more details. Our 2011 Geocache Challenge was a great success with happy participants from our area and folks who traveled from out of state to see our beautiful area and patronize our local businesses. Geocaching is a high-tech, family oriented, treasure hunting game. GPS devices are used to locate hidden containers, called geocaches. Adventure seekers of all ages search for geocaches throughout the world and then they share experiences online.

Local venues each have unique qualities
Our area has interesting meeting and event venues that reflect the unique and artistic tastes of Clackamas County. For example, check out The Holding Cell at The Verdict Bar and Grill for a sit down dinner or a mingling event in a room with rich wooden floors and ambient lighting. There are several outdoor or earthy venues through our parks and recreation departments. Many hotels and inns have meeting and event rooms to satisfy varying tastes and requirements. You will find many of our area venues also offer catering served with attention to special dietary needs and appetizing presentation. Support our schools!
Our schools are currently facing unprecedented cuts in education funding, which has led to unmet critical student needs. In response, the North Clackamas Education Foundation (a non-profit organization founded in 1992 to support the North Clackamas School District) will be holding its annual gala dinner and auction on Saturday, April 21, 2011 at the Abernethy Center in Oregon City. To help play a part in our success, North Clackamas Education Foundation is respectfully requesting donations of gift certificates, services, or experiences to be featured as part of our live and silent auctions. Wichita Center invites community to open house
After serving as a school for 100 years, the Wichita Center for Family & Community has taken on a new role as a hub for social services. The newly updated facility, run by North Clackamas Schools, will welcome the community to tour the building on February 3, from 4 to 8 p.m. All are welcome.

WIIN Program at CCC provides pathway for immigrant nurses

Eugene Famba Sadiki's journey as a nurse began before he finished high school in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. He survived being shot in wartime and separation from his wife, who believed he was dead. Half a world away from the Congo, Sadiki is continuing his path in nursing in the United States through the Workforce Improvement with Immigrant Nurses (WIIN) program at Clackamas Community College (CCC). The WIIN program at CCC prepares experienced foreign-educated nurses living in the U.S. to enter the nursing workforce here and eases their transition into practice.

Each year, the Portland Business Journal recognizes 25 women for their business and civic contributions. Winners will be featured in their special Women of Influence publication and honored at their Women of Influence Luncheon on April 25, 2012. East Metro State Representatives to host bipartisan town halls
Republican, Democratic legislators to hold meetings in Happy Valley, East County
State Representatives Patrick Sheehan (R-Clackamas), Greg Matthews (D-Gresham), Matt Wand (R-Troutdale) and Mike Schaufler (D-Happy Valley) will hold two bipartisan town halls in February to discuss the 2012 legislative session. The Republican and Democratic legislators say the town halls will give local residents a unique opportunity to ask questions and share their concerns. The first town hall will be held on Saturday, February 4 from 10:00am to noon at Earl Boyles Elementary School, 10822 SE Bush Street in Portland. The second town hall will be held on Saturday, February 11 from 10:00am to noon at Happy Valley Elementary School at 13865 SE Kind Road in Happy Valley. Both town halls are free to attend and open to the public.

The workshops are a key part of the County's Transportation System Plan (TSP) update process.
