Support social and human services agencies         

 

The Oregonian The Oregonian's 2011 Season of Sharing campaign is in full swing through December 31. Now in its 80th year, the campaign raises funds for social and human services agencies. This year the beneficiary agencies include several with Clackamas County connections: Elders in Action, which serves county seniors; Mt. Hood Kiwanis Camp, which serves people with disabilities; Molalla Communities That Care, which serves Molalla-area residents; and Molly's Fund Fighting Lupus, based in Clackamas. Also this year, The Oregonian is partnering with  Oregonians Credit Union, which is providing financial services for the campaign. Hiring Our Heroes Fair serves Oregon veterans     

Clackamas Community College More than 440 veterans connected with 79 employers and dozens of service providers during one of Oregon's first Hiring Our Heroes Career and Benefit Fairs last month at Clackamas Community College. In addition, hundreds of service members from the Oregon Army National Guard, Navy Reserve and Oregon Air Guard participated in the job fair and a corresponding 60-day Yellow Ribbon reintegration event.

Volunteer receptionists needed at Wichita Center      

People who want to help children in need will find that opportunity by volunteering to take a weekly receptionist shift at the Wichita Center for Family & Community.  No experience is needed, and training will be provided.

Scholarship open enrollment begins Jan. 1 for the 2012-13 school year.

January 2 - New Years Day Holiday

CCC will be closed in observance of the New Years Day holiday.

January 7 - College Goal Oregon

Students, potential students and parents can get assistance with the financial aid process and with completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form.

January 9 - Winter Term Begins

Winter term classes begin at Clackamas Community College.

January 11 - Auditions for Winter Term Student Performance Showcase

Auditions for CCC Theatre Arts Department's winter term Student Performance Showcase are scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 11, from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Osterman Theatre.

Bonfire and Christmas ships  in Milwaukie    

Enjoy the Winter Solstice Bonfire and Christmas Ships on Saturday, December 17, 2011. Warm by the bonfire and watch the Christmas Ship fleet cruise the Willamette River at the Jefferson Street Boat Ramp at Milwaukie's Riverfront Park 4:00pm - 6:00pm. Ships are scheduled to come by around 5:30pm and the Dickens Carolers will perform from 4:45-5:45pm. Local neighborhood groups will be selling concessions. This annual event draws hundreds of people and is a fun time for the whole family. This event is free and all ages are encouraged to participate! Parking is limited at the boat ramp so please park downtown.

Holiday show and book signing

 

Award-winning author Susan Butruille and the acclaimed Heartstrings (Rob & Nancy Downie) will perform a holiday show and sign books and new CDs on Sunday, December 18 from 1:00pm - 3:00pm at the Visitor Center, 1726 Washington Street, Oregon City. Heartstrings play authentic music from the trails and frontiers with hammered dulcimer, string bass, and Native American flute. Help your local non-profits - donate coats, sweaters, and fleeces 

Help your local community and Rowe Middle School Interact Club by donating your coats and sweaters now! Remember to bring your new or "gently used" coats, sweaters, fleeces to Rowe Middle School (by December 16th) or your local Thomas Joseph Personalized Dry Cleaning (multiple locations in Clackamas County by December 22, 2011). Mention "donation" when dropping off at Thomas Joseph so they can be cleaned and distributed to the right place. All donations will be benefiting two local non-profits in the area, The Wichita Center and Northwest Family Services of Clackamas County. Thank you all for making a difference, one coat at a time!

Working together to stop fraud

Clackamas County Sheriff's Office The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office is hosting the Fall 2012 Northwest Fraud Investigators Association (NWFIA) Conference being held September 28-29, 2012 in Welches, Oregon. The NWFIA membership includes experienced investigators from all levels of law enforcement, banking, and business; all work together in partnership to stop the multi-million dollar fraud industry. The Sheriff's Office is hoping to partner with local businesses to help support the conference.  If you would like more information regarding sponsorship options and benefits, please contact Detective Dan Smith at 503.785.5133 or Detective Paul Wade at 503.785.5134. The NWFIA has been designated a 501 (c)(3) non-profit charitable organization.
