Chamber office hours to change  

Beginning on December 5, 2011 Your Chamber will be open to the public  from 9:00am to 4:00pm Monday through Friday, including during lunch. During these hours we will be greeting visitors and answering telephones. Meetings with individuals and teams will continue as scheduled during both open and closed hours.

We have a new phone system, so it is now much more convenient for you to leave a message to any staff member during our closed hours.    
Community resource provides opportunity for you to market your business

Your Chamber, in partnership with Chamber member Village Profile, is in the process of producing an up-to-date community map. This map will be a resource for visitors, tourists and the community. It will be available in print and several digital formats. As well as being handed out at Your Chamber, it will be distributed by local hotels, hospitals, retirement communities and other businesses. NOW is the time for you to reserve your spot for an advertisement in this much anticipated community resource.

Umbrella Parade and tree lighting in Milwaukie  

The 2011 Milwaukie Umbrella Parade and City Hall Tree Lighting will be held Saturday December 3, 2011. Participants are asked to assemble in the Waldorf School parking lot on Monroe Street between 3:30-3:45pm. Prizes will be awarded for funniest, most colorful, and best overall in both youth and adult categories. The parade will head through downtown on Main Street around 4:00pm led by Santa Claus in a fire truck.
The City Hall tree lighting will immediately follow in front of City Hall (10722 SE Main Street) Treats will be served and Santa Claus will visit with attendees.

Family fun at tree lighting ceremony in Happy Valley 

Join the City of Happy Valley for a late afternoon of family fun on December 4, 2011 from 4:00pm - 6:00pm. There will be musical entertainment, horse drawn carriage rides, refreshments, with Santa arriving at 4:30pm and the tree lighting at 4:45pm.

Catch the spirit with holiday event in Boring!   

Bring your family and join your neighbors for a fun evening at the Seventh Annual Christmas Tree Lighting in Boring on Sunday, December 4, 2011 at 4:30pm at the Boring-Damascus Grange. Don't miss the caroling, tree lighting with Santa, Santa visits, refreshments, canned food drive, and giving tree. Contact Cody Sorenson at 503.781.4507 for more information.

Bonfire and Christmas ships - family fun in Milwaukie!  

 

Enjoy the Winter Solstice Bonfire and Christmas Ships on Saturday, December 17, 2011. Warm by the bonfire and watch the Christmas Ship fleet cruise the Willamette River at the Jefferson Street Boat Ramp at Milwaukie's Riverfront Park 4:00pm - 6:00pm. Ships are scheduled to come by around 5:30pm and the Dickens Carolers will perform from 4:45-5:45pm. Local neighborhood groups will be selling concessions. This annual event draws hundreds of people and is a fun time for the whole family. This event is free and all ages are encouraged to participate! Parking is limited at the boat ramp so please park downtown.

Phony BBB complaint hits businesses nationwide
Fake complaint notice lands reports from businesses

 

Locally and nationally, businesses are reporting questionable complaint notices disguised as official Better Business Bureau (BBB) correspondence. Phishing emails-which prominently feature BBB's name and logo-indicate that businesses have received BBB complaints and must respond by clicking on enclosed links or attachments. Locally, BBB  has received dozens of reports of these fake complaint notices.

During the season of giving, cons are on the take
  

As scammers seek to exploit holiday generosity, Better Business Bureau (BBB) urges consumers to protect well-intentioned donations. According to the Nonprofit Research Collaborative's November 2010 Fundraising Survey, the majority of all charitable contributions are made in the last quarter of the year-October to December. Not surprisingly, scammers ramp up efforts during this time in hopes of snagging funds for themselves.
