Sunrise JTA Project good for business
Since 1988, the Sunrise Corridor has been identified as an essential freight route from I-5 and I-205 to US 26 and East. The congestion and development limitations caused by the existing roadways have been costly to local businesses as the Clackamas Industrial Area is home to one of Oregon's busiest and most critical freight distribution centers. Every minute a truck sits in traffic it is lost revenue for businesses paying wages and vehicle hours. Current delays are estimated to be reduced by 39% with the completion of the Sunrise Corridor saving $22.5 million. Improving access to the Clackamas Industrial Area is good for business and our community.
ODOT and Clackamas County have scheduled an open house and short presentation to update the community on the Sunrise Jobs and Transportation Act improvements, on Tuesday, November 8, from 5:30pm to 7:30pm at the Clackamas Banquet Center. The presentation will be at 6pm. Click to see their newsletter for more information. They are interested in hearing from business and community members about what you need to know about the project and how to remain informed. Please take a few minutes to complete the short survey about the project. Responses are anonymous and will be used to help them improve project communications and outreach as they move forward.

Do you know?
When I became chair of the board, one of the many things I learned was that the Chamber has a charitable foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization, the North Clackamas County Chamber of Commerce Community Foundation available to do good works. I figure if the Foundation is news to me, it's probably news to a lot of you.

Help high school students raise funds for educational opportunity
Every other year, the Clackamas High School A Cappella Choir travels to a major U.S. city as an educational opportunity for the students and to promote the excellent music programs available in Clackamas County. This May, the choir will be travelling to Chicago, Illinois. To send the choir, funds need to be raised (approximately $1200 per student). One of the key fundraising philosophies they are promoting is having the students be actively involved in the fundraising efforts. They could really use the help of Chamber members to find ways you can utilize their students in helping raise the funds for this trip. It's going to be a community effort to make this happen.
