Behind the scenes in D.C.; does business benefit?
An overview of the nation's budget process, and what Congress does next, along with what Congress is doing for business, will be the focus of a presentation Thursday, August 18 by Congressman Kurt Schrader.
The business community will have an opportunity to discuss issues and ask questions at a breakfast with the District 5 Congressman as the speaker. His discussion includes fiscal reform and other business issues and his perspectives of what is happening on Capitol Hill that affects business.

Dogs for Doernbecher
Join Rivermark Community Credit Union on Friday, August 12, 2011 from 11:30am to 2:00pm for a hot dog lunch. A single dog meal with chips, cookie and soda or water costs $4 while a double dog meal with chips, cookie and soda or water costs $6. All Proceeds benefit Doernbecher Children's Hospital. There will be something for everyone at safety fair
The 2011 Safety and Roadway Fair will be held at Clackamas Town Center on Saturday August 27th from 10:00am to 3:00pm. Free Child ID Kits and reduced priced helmets will be available. Safety professionals will be on hand to answer questions and provide important prevention messages. And there's more. Fire engines, water craft, command vehicles, and road equipment like dirt movers will be on hand. Children can visit stations and earn prizes by answering safety questions. Congestion relief project begins
Construction began on August 8, 2011 to improve traffic flow and safety on OR 212/224 at 82nd Drive and I-205. To minimize traffic impacts, most work requiring lane closures will be done during the nighttime hours of 8:00pm to 5:30am. Daytime work will primarily be off the roadway with some sidewalk closures. Additionally, there will be some nighttime closures of the I-205 northbound and southbound on- and off-ramps. Candidates sought for Military Families Scholarship Endowment
The deadline to apply for this year's Military Families Scholarship Endowment (MFSE) at Clackamas Community College (CCC) has been extended to Aug. 31. The scholarship provides educational support to the spouses and dependents of military personnel. The MFSE supports spouses and dependent children of active-duty personnel, reserves, Oregon National Guard and survivors of those servicemen and women who have died since 2003. Movies in the Parks
Sponsored by North Clackamas Parks & Recreation District, FREE movies will be held throughout the area on Friday evenings beginning at dusk, usually about 9:00pm. So bring a picnic and a blanket and enjoy family movies under the stars. Friday, August 12th the movie, "The Incredibles" will be showing at Milwaukie Covenant Church, 12201 SE Linwood Ave in Milwaukie. The event is being sponsored by the Linwood Neighborhood Association. |
The ultimate Portland excursion beckons this summer
Put on your walking shoes and enjoy all Portland has to offer this summer. It's called the 4T, an adventure that will take you on a trail, tram, trolley and train - all in one outing. Begin with a hike on the Marquam Trail to the city's highest point, Council Crest, then pass through the campus of Oregon Health and Science University. From there, catch a free ride down the Portland Aerial Tram to the South Waterfront District along the Willamette River. There, hop on the streetcar (trolley) and enjoy the ride into downtown Portland, where you can return to the start via a MAX light rail train. Metro provides detailed directions online for the 4T,as well as information for 48 other Walk There! treks. |
Enjoy a barn dance at Foster Farm
Pull out your dancing shoes and go on down to the Philip Foster Farm (29912 SE Hwy 211 in Eagle Creek) on August 27th, 2011 for the annual pioneer dinner and barn dance. Music will be provided by the Heartstrings and the Heartland Classic Country Band. Square Dance demonstrations will be by the Country Cut-ups and a hearty pioneer dinner will be by the Jittery Pig. Firm passes peer review
The Billups Company CPA's has successfully completed a peer review of their quality control system with a rating of pass. Certified Public Accounting firms that perform auditing and accounting engagements are required to obtain an independent peer review of their quality control system. The goal is to determine whether it is designed and implemented in a way that assures that the firm's accounting and auditing work meets the rigorous standards of the profession. A copy of the report can be found on the firm's website. The firm was founded by owner Mike Billups in 1982. It has four professionals who provide accounting, audit, and tax services to a wide variety of clients. |
