Annual meeting
The May 18 meeting of the Board of Directors will also be the annual meeting of the organization, according to Wilda Parks, Chamber CEO. The annual business meeting will be incorporated into the Board agenda, Parks said. On the Board agenda will be reports from Chamber teams on their progress for the year. Officers for the 2011-12 year, including the new President/CEO, will be elected by the Board. The meeting will be held in room 143 at the Oregon Institute of Technology. Seating begins at 11:45 at the meeting will be called to order promptly at 12 noon. Members attending should make reservations since seating may be limited. The room location may be changed depending on the number of attendees, Parks noted. If members attending would also like lunch, those reservations should be made in advance. Lunch cost is $9 per person, paid in advance. Reservations may be made by contacting the Chamber at 503-654-7777 or by email. |

Many questions surround Oregon's complex educational funding structure and the governor's new Oregon Education Investment Team. Public invited to open house
Clackamas County will hold an open house May 23 to give the public the chance to review 30 percent design plans for the extension of Sunnybrook Boulevard west to Harmony Road, and provide comments and feedback on specific design issues. The open house is scheduled from 6-8 p.m., Monday, May 23, in the cafeteria at Linwood Elementary School, 11909 SE Linwood Ave., Milwaukie.

Citizen input helps choose direction
Any resident, business and/or property owner in or near the McLoughlin area should plan now to be part of a public workshop on Saturday, May 21, 9 a.m. - noon to identify specific improvements and projects they would like to see in the McLoughlin Boulevard area south of Milwaukie and north of Gladstone. The workshop will be held at Rex Putnam High School, 4950 SE Roethe Rd., Milwaukie, hosted by the McLoughlin Area Planning (MAP) Committee, a citizen advisory group working with Clackamas County. We are still offering community members the opportunity to participate in the upcoming Restaurant and Shopping Guide. We need 125 of your 8 ½" x 11" restaurant, catering, coffee house, or bakery menus and flyers by May 17th. The Guide is distributed to hotels, retirement communities, hospitals and businesses in your community. This is a free service to promote community businesses. You can mail them or drop them by the Chamber office. |
Voting "Yes" for safety and economic vitality
Let's not gamble with our lives, our economy or our futures. Saying "Yes" to Measure 3-372 on the May ballot will only cost us a tall coffee every two years while helping to ensure the construction of the failing Sellwood Bridge. We can't afford not to say "Yes". Full article |
Army Strong Community Center celebrates opening May 14
The grand opening of a new Army Strong Community Center (ASCC) is Saturday, May 14, at 10 a.m. at Clackamas Community College. The ASCC is a virtual installation designed to provide support close to home. Service members, retirees, veterans and their families receive responsive services at the same level of access and resources as they would expect to find on a military installation. Full article |
Clackamas legislators schedule town halls
On Wednesday, May 11,State Representative Dave Hunt and fellow Clackamas County state legislators will host a Budget Town Hall with a presentation from House Ways and Means Co-Chair Peter Buckley. That meeting will be held in the auditorium at Rex Putnam High School at 6:30 p.m.
U.S. Congressman Kurt Schrader and State Representative Dave Hunt will hold a joint town hall meeting at Willamette View Manor in Oak Grove on Monday, May 16th from 6:30 to 8pm. The joint meeting provides local residents with a second chance to meet with Schrader and Hunt.

Providence hosts performance and town hall on public health
 Jewish Theatre Collaborative will present a free presentation of Life, Liberty & the Pursuit of Well-Being, a dynamic 45-minute two person, biographical play about Lillian Wald. A town hall forum directly follows the performance where community leaders, public health professionals and policy makers, including Marti Franc, Clackamas County Public Health manager, will speak and then join the audience in a conversation on public health.

CCC presents spring 2011 concert line up
Clackamas Community College (CCC) presents an array of concerts each spring ranging from concert bands to jazz. Here is the spring concert schedule: May 31: CCC Instrumental Jazz Ensemble Clackamas High School and Oregon City High School jazz ensembles join CCC's musicians in concert. June 1: CCC Instrumental Jazz Night CCC jazz students join the concert band students for an evening of music. June 2: CCC and PSU Concert Bands Concert begins at 8 p.m. at CCC's Niemeyer Center. June 3: Vocal Jazz Night Spring Concert CCC's vocal jazz students and special guest artist Nancy King share their music. June 4: Vocal Jazz Night Spring Concert CCC's vocal jazz students and the PSU Vocal Jazz Ensemble share their music.
