Hi ,
In recognition of a significant date in our nation's history, the 10th anniversary of 09/11, we realize many in our association may want to formally recognize that date on the fields this Sunday. In order to have uniformity in what we do in our association we ask you to follow this ceremonial start should you recognize the event. Explain the procedure below and ask the Head Coach from each team if it is OK with them. Get their permission. If either coach says no, then start normally. Assuming both say yes... 1) Get all your check-in completed 2) Conduct the Coin Toss 3) Have the players do their "cheer" 4) Have the starting players take their places on the field 5) In a loud enough voice to get the attention of the coaches, substitutes and spectators announce, "We will have a moment of silence in recognition of 09/11 before we start. Please stand, remove your hats." 6) The length of the moment is your call. A full minute is a long time. You be the judge. 7) End the moment of silence with a "Thank You" 8) Announce to the players that you are about to start 9) Get your game underway. If the referee on the game has difficulty with English one of the assistant referees can make announcement in step 5. We realize many fields are tightly scheduled. We think this method will provide the least disruption to your staying on time and still allow the proper recognition. Have a great weekend and please let us know if you have any questions. Thanks, Tom and Leanne |
