Hi ,

The following applies to Presidio Matches only.
Other competitions/leagues may have different rules.

We've had a couple of referees ask for clarification when a "Coach" is not present with their team at the start of the game, or has been dismissed for "Irresponsible Behavior" during the game, or has left the game for some other reason before the final whistle.

There are two main points I think,

1) It is VERY important you know who the coach is, or coaches are, BEFORE you start your match. Running back to your bag to check whether or not you can start or continue the match does not look so good for your crew.

2) An administrator's card, such as a Manager, not a coach, is not sufficient to start or continue a game.

Remember, when you are conducting your check-in, you are not only checking in the players, you are ALSO verifying the coaching staff.

Presidio's answer is quite clear to me. I am still happy to answer any additional questions.

Thanks,
Tom

FROM PRESIDIO:

The following narrative is from Presidio in answer to our questions about this subject. The rules excerpts are from the 2010 Presidio Soccer League Gaming Rules and Regulations.

"The card does not have to be on the ring, but the coach must be affiliated with the club.  If a coach is excused because of irresponsible behavior and there is not another licensed coach from the same club to take the coaches place, the game is abandoned and noted on the report that the team did not have a licensed coach to continue the game.  An administrator's card only states they are risk managed and performs a certain function on the team.  They are not a CalSouth registered coach and cannot be a replacement for a coach.  The coach's card will state their level of coaching, an "E" licensed coaching card is required to coach any game in Presidio.

If a coach leaves the game for any reason prior to the end of the game, the referee should abandon the game and note it on the report.  Presidio will make the decision on the end result of the game.  The referee should not declare it a forfeit, just abandon the game and note it on the report."

2) REFEREE GAME RESPONSIBILITIES
    d) Check that each team has a coach with a valid
CalSouth coaching pass. A minimum of an "E"
License is mandatory for all competitive coaches.
Any team that does not have a person with a valid
CalSouth coaching pass shall forfeit the game.

6) ADMINISTRATOR RED CARD/FORFEITS: If no coach is present due to referee discipline, that team will forfeit the game. All coaches must be currently licensed by CalSouth. Any coach from the team's club may continue the game if the coach has a valid coach's card with that club.
