scrapbook
Employees and families of the Duncanville Police Department in conjunction with the Law Enforcement Torch Run are hosting a special fundraising event, Scrapping for the Athletes, benefiting the Special Olympics of Texas (SOTX).

Scrapping for the Athletes is a seven-hour scapbooking event where participants can create scrapbooks and interact with fellow scapbookers. Scrapping for the Athletes will be held October 22, 2011 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the D.L. Hopkins, Jr. Senior Center, 206 James Collins Blvd., Duncanville, Texas.

Event organizer Gloria Backus said the event is not only raising money for a worthwhile cause but a great way to have fun.

"This event will bring together crafters for an enjoyable day of fun and sharing ideas while also benefiting an organization near and dear to our hearts.  All age groups enjoy scrapbooking and this art form continues to grow in popularity each year," said Backus.

"Vendors will have products for purchase by attendees and there will be craft demonstrations, make-and-takes and door prizes galore.  Come join us for a fun-filled day and help make a brighter future for our Special Olympic athletes," she added.

In addition, there will be silent auction and a registered massage therapist available at the event.

The cost for the event is $35 per person. The registration deadline is October 1, 2011. Cancellation of reservations for a full refund is permissible until October 1. Registration forms are available at www.duncanville.com. All of the proceeds of the event will benefit the Special Olympics of Texas. Duncanville Announces 2011 Citizen Survey

The City of Duncanville wants to know what residents think about our community and City government. As a result, the City has contracted with National Research Center, Inc. to conduct a general survey of resident attitudes about local quality of life, quality of service delivery, resident activity and resident demography.

The survey has been mailed to 1,200 randomly selected addresses evenly distributed throughout our five single-member districts. If your household received a survey, we sincerely hope that you will take a few minutes to complete the survey and return it in the postage-paid return envelope.

Your answers will help the City Council make decisions that affect our community while providing perspectives on service delivery and community quality of life that cannot be deduced from complaints or comments at public meetings.

You should find the questions interesting and we will definitely find your answers useful. Please be assured that your identity will not be revealed - your responses will remain completely anonymous.

Duncanville Partners to Brings Homeowners Warranty Program

Sewer Line

The City of Duncanville is introducing a new program available to homeowners, provided through a partnership with the National League of Cities (NLC) and Service Line Warranties of America (SLWA). The Service Line Warranty program provides low cost, worry free warranty protection for water and sewer service lines.

"Many citizens are unaware that they are responsible for the water and sewer lines that go from their houses to the utility connection. If these lines break or leak, repairs can be very expensive," said City ManagerKent Cagle.   The Service Line Warranty program offers citizens an affordable way to avoid the unexpected and often large expense involved with a water or sewer line break. When a line breaks, the cost to repair it can often cause hardship on a family's budget. This new program will offer warranty protection to help cover the costs of a break.

City of Duncanville residents will see offers in their mail boxes during the month of September for the sewer line warranty program. In March, residents will receive additional information regarding the water line warranty program.   The cost of each warranty program is approximately $4-5 per month and covers repairs up to $4,000. The program is offered at no cost to the City of Duncanville, and no public funds are used to promote the program.

"We are pleased to partner with the City of Duncanville in bringing peace of mind to homeowners in Duncanville through an affordable Service Line Warranty program," said Brad Carmichael, vice-president of business development for Service Line Warranties of America. "We think Duncanville residents will be pleased with our features and benefits, including 24/7 repair service using local, certified technicians. This keeps dollars in the local economy, an important benefit in these tough financial times."

SLWA is proud to have been selected by the NLC as an Enterprise Programs Partner. After a decade in business, SLWA has an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau. The National League of Cities, representing over 218 million Americans, is the nation's oldest and largest organization devoted to strengthening and promoting cities as centers of opportunity, leadership and governance.
