ROADWORK ALERT: Main Street Overlay to Begin

March 14, 2011

construction

The City of Duncanville is preparing to construct an asphalt overlay on Main Street between East Freeman and Danieldale Road beginning Monday, March 14, 2011.

Construction activities are scheduled to begin Monday, March 14 and, weather permitting, will end Friday, March 18, 2011. The schedule coincides with Spring Break for the Duncanville Independent School District. The asphalt overlay will be performed by the Dallas County Road and Bridge Division crews under an agreement between the City of Duncanville and Dallas County.

Construction activities will consist of removing the existing surface course of asphalt (milling) and replacing it with new asphalt. Two-way traffic will be maintained; however, expect certain lanes to be closed at various intervals as the existing roadway surface is milled and new asphalt is placed on the milled surface. The current work plan is to remove the entire roadway surface prior to placing the new asphalt.

During construction activities, there may be some minor disruptions to driveway access if construction is immediately in front of the driveway. Any disruptions should be short lived in duration, and we appreciate your patience and cooperation during the process.

Should you have any questions or concerns regarding this work, please contact Mr. Mike Brownlee, P.E., with the City of Duncanville Public Works Department at (972) 780-5016 or by email at mbrownlee@ci.duncanville.tx.us.

In addition to the Main Street overlay, the City of Duncanville will begin the Phase 1 construction as part of the N. Main Street improvements in March 2011 as well. Phase 1 consists of reconfiguring of Main Street between Center Street and Davis Street to maintain smooth traffic flow, while allowing easier access to businesses along Main Street, and creating a pedestrian-friendly area with tree-lined sidewalks.

This project will serve to revitalize the City and create a true central hub at the heart of the city. The Main Street project embraces the concept of new urbanism providing for multiple work/live units interspersed with retail opportunities. This grant-funded project will help increase the City's density in anticipation of commuter rail station in the future.

As construction schedules are finalized, updates will be posted online at www.duncanville.com and on the Main Street Redesign website at www.duncanville.com/mainstreet/projectstatus.html.
