Recreation Center and Library to Host 10th Anniversary Celebration THIS Saturday!
Community CenterHappy Birthday, Duncanville Recreation Center and Library!

 

The Duncanville Recreation Center and Library will host a 10th Anniversary Celebration on Saturday, August 14 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Duncanville Community Center, located at 201 James Collins Blvd.

 

Attendees will be able to enjoy and experience many of the activities and programs offered at both the Recreation Center and Library such as fitness class demonstrations, a dance performance, face painting, crafts, and a science magic show presented by the popular Dr. Brainius.

 

According to Duncanville Public Library Director Carla W. Bryan, since the Library opened at its current location, staff have served more than 1.3 million patrons, circulated 1.7 million items and offered 4,450 programs in which 114,000 people attended. 

 

The Recreation Center has also planned numerous activities to showcase the programs, classes and amenities they offer as well. Attendees will be able to experience fencing, ballet, jazzercise, karate, ZUMBA and swingout. In addition, Duncanville sports associations will be on-hand to sign-up players for the fall season.

 

Cake and refreshments will be served and there will be raffle drawing every half hour. Prizes include free vouchers to classes offered at the Recreation Center, a basket from Chick-fil-A, Subway vouchers, gift certificates to Toshio's Taste of Japan, Recreation Center memberships and more!

 
City Council to Hold Public Hearings on FY 2010-2011 Budget, Tax Rate Increase and Hotel/Motel Budget
At the August 17 City Council meeting, citizens will have an opportunity to voice their opinion on the FY 2010-2011 budget, the proposed tax rate increase and the FY 2010-2001 hotel/motel tax budget. 
 
Citizens wishing to address any of these issues can either submit their comments online on the Public Hearing Comment Form or in person at the City Council Meeting to be held at 7:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at City Hall, 203 E. Wheatland Rd.

City Offices Will Close for Furlough Day
censusIn an effort to combat budget shortfalls, the City of Duncanville implemented a mandatory furlough program, which requires employees to take one day of leave without pay during the remainder of the current fiscal year.
 
The furlough day has been scheduled on a holiday weekend so that the City will experience energy as well as personnel cost savings.

As a result of the furlough policy, all City offices (City Hall, Recreation Center, Public Library, D.L. Hopkins, Jr. Senior Center, and the Municipal Service Center) will be closed on the following days: 

Friday, September 3, 2010: Furlough Day
Saturday, September 4, 2010
Sunday, September 5, 2010
Monday, September 6, 2010: Labor Day Holiday
No Trash Pick-Up on Labor Day Holiday

 

censusThere will be no trash pick-up on Monday, September 6, in observance of the Labor Day holiday.

Duncanville to Host Festival in Duncanville

Live music, a clown show, folklorio dancing, ZUMBA, face painting, arts and crafts, food, bounce houses, merchandise booths and more! Festival in Duncanville will be a day full of fun and entertainment for the whole family to enjoy!
 
Festival in Duncanville will be held Saturday, September 18 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Armstrong Park, 315 E. Wheatland Rd. in Duncanville.
