Parks and Recreation Summer Program Guide
Parks and Rec Logo2The Parks and Recreation Department's summer programming begins this month with new programs for children and adults. Don't worry your favorite fitness and personal enrichment classes are still being offered!
 
Programs for CPR, Dance and Cheer, Yoga, Self-Defense, Ballet, ZUMBA, Jazzercise, Scrapbooking, Guitar, and Swingout are all offered at the Duncanville Recreation Center! Click here to view the Parks and Recreation Summer 2010 Program Guide.
 
Save the Date! Don't forget to mark your calendars for the Duncanville Recreation Center & Duncanville Library 10th Anniversary Celebration August 14, 2010! The event will feature an open house complete with free class demonstrations, refreshments, and programs for children.
Summer Camp Programs for Youth Offered at the Rec
Dirty Jobs CampNeed fun, safe activities for your child this summer? Look no further! The Duncanville Parks and Recreation Department is hosting two summer camps: Shining Stars Day Camp and the Dirty Jobs Camp.
 
The Shining Stars Day Camp runs from June 7 through August 13 from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The cost is $85 per week and includes fieldtrips and a 
T-shirt. Participants will discover the outdoors, play tons of games, take awesome fieldtrips, and so much more!
 
The Dirty Jobs Camp is a week long camp from June 14 through June 18 from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The cost is $125 and includes fieldtrips and a T-shirt. The Dirty Jobs Camp allows children to get their hands dirty and experience the behind-the-scenes action of different jobs throughout the community!

Duncanville to Host Juneteenth Celebration
JunteenthThe City of Duncaville is hosting the annual Best Southwest Juneteenth Celebration on Saturday, June 19 from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at Armstrong Park located at 315 E. Wheatland Rd. in Duncanville.

Council Seeks Citizens to Serve on City Boards & Commissions

Duncanville City Council is currently accepting applications from citizens interested in volunteering their service on one of the City's boards or commission.

 

To be eligible to serve, one must be a resident, qualified voter of the City of Duncanville, and not delinquent in the payment of ad valorem taxes or in the payment of fines to the City.

 

According to City SecretaryDara Crabtree, vacancies will be reviewed and filled during the summer months for the following boards:  Planning & Zoning Commission, Board of Adjustment, Park & Recreation Advisory Board, Library Advisory Board, Sign Control Board, Keep Duncanville Beautiful Board, and Certified Retirement Community Oversight Committee.  She also noted that at this time there are no vacancies on the Tri-City Animal Shelter Board and the Duncanville Community and Economic Development Corporation; however, some of the boards may have more than one vacancy. 

 

"Applications will be accepted in June through mid-July. Following the application deadline, the City Council will conduct a brief interview with each applicant.  Appointments are then made in August," she added.

 

Anyone interested in serving is encouraged to forward a completed application to Dara Crabtree, City Secretary, P.O. Box 380280, Duncanville, Texas75138-0280.  An application form can be downloaded from the City website www.duncanville.com or obtained by contacting Ms. Crabtree at (972) 780-5017.

Duncanville Prepares for July Fourth Celebration

 

censusLive music, water slides, food vendors, fireworks, and more! This year's Stars and Stripes Celebration in
Duncanville has everything!

 

The City of Duncanville Parks and Recreation Department is hosting its annual celebration on Sunday, July 4th from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at Armstrong Park located at 315 E. Wheatland Rd. 

 

This popular community event is one that Special Events Coordinator Angie Henley said is poised to have even bigger crowds than previous years.

 

"We're expecting a big crowd this year. We will have water slides, inflatable bounce houses and slides, face painting and great food!" said Henley. "To end the night, Professor D will be playing live and will help us countdown for the best fireworks display in South Dallas." 

 

Different from previous years, the Lions Club Parade will be held the day before the Stars and Stripes Celebration on Saturday, July 3 at 9:00 a.m.

 
This year's theme is "America Shines in Duncanville." To participate in the parade, those interested must submit a Parade Application, which can be found online at www.duncanville.com. The entry deadline is Wednesday, June 30 at 5:00 p.m.
