ESA Cancer Awareness Day 5K Run THIS Saturday

On-Site Registration Available on Race Day
May 1, 2010 will mark the 16th Annual Cancer Awareness Day 5K Run and 1 Mile Fun Walk hosted by the Theta Pi Chapter of Epison Sigma Alpha, and this year' Title Sponsor, Methodist Charlton Medical Center. Participants will gather at Lake side Park in Duncanville beginning with an aerobic warm-up at 7:45 a.m. The 1 mile walk begins at 8:00 a.m., and the certified 5K race has a start time of 8:30 a.m.
 
The first Cancer Awareness Day in 1995 was to honor legendary Duncanville Basketball Coach Sandra Meadows. Unfortunately, Sandra passed away before the event took place that year. The race is now held in memory of Sandra, and it has esteemed her legacy and promoted cancer awarenss for the last 16 years.
 
Celebrity Chairperson for the 2010 event is Starlene Stringer. Starlene is the Morning Co-host, News and Public Affairs Director at KLTY 94.9FM. Ms. Stringer, a Duncanville High School and TWU graduate, is a best selling author, motivational speaker, model, fitness instructor and caring volunteer. As the survivor of a helicopter crash, Starlene knows eacy day is a gift, and she does her best to convey that message through her words and actions.
 
Brochures are available at the Duncanville Chamber of Commerece and Duncanville City Hall. You can register for the event online at www.runontexas.com. Entry fees are $12 for students (18 and uder), $20 for adult participants and $25 on the day of the race. For more information, please call (972) 296-9898.
 
Proceeds from the event will continue to provide mammograms for under-insured women, prostate exams for under-insured men, and emergency funds for families withouth other financial assets to cover medicine, tests, food, or basic needs.
Sweep It Out Saturday Scheduled for May 8
censusBring your junk...old computers, CD/DVD players, printers, VCRs, fax and copy machines, cell phones, and satellite TV equipment for the City of Duncanville's annual Sweep It Out Saturday on May 8 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Armstrong Park, 315 E. Wheatland Rd.
 
This event gives Duncanville residents an opportunity to dispose of their electronice waste, shred sensitive/personal documents, and clean out their garage and storage units. Click here to view the Sweep It Out Saturday event flyer.
