DIRECTOR'S VIEW
"We live in a society bloated with data, but starved for wisdom." This quote can be attributed to Elizabeth Lindsey, filmmaker and anthropologist. There is so much information flying around us right now that it can be hard to step back and make sense of any of it. The amount of information that we have at our fingertips through various mobile devices is staggering, and sometimes, overwhelming. While the library struggles to keep up with technology and provide our patrons with the newest formats, it is comforting to know that we also still provide the human touch so lacking in many of our other daily transactions. We provide a connection - to your child, to the past, to the community, and to the future. Trish Burns, Director |

Hoyt Library and Castle Museum Receive Grant
The National Endowment for the Humanities has awarded the Public Libraries of Saginaw and the Historical Society of Saginaw County (Castle Museum) with a preservation grant of $6,000.00 to contract with a professional paper conservator to provide an assessment of the preservation, treatment, and stabilization needs of 30 rare photographs by the Goodridge Brothers held by our institutions.
The Goodridge Brother's success as an enduring African-American enterprise in the post-Civil War era and early 20th century is notable in itself, but the body of their work, including a wide range of photographs of businesses and civic events in Saginaw, makes this a collection enormously important to the history of our city. |
