Greetings!
 For us as moms -- and with so many great moms in our lives -- the second Sunday in May is always cause to celebrate. So far this month, the mom-friendly things we've done have included participating in Easter Seals' Walk With Me at Mainland High School in Daytona Beach, and nominating one of our favorite moms, Susan Moor, for recognition in our local daily newspaper (see the mini-feature on Susan, below).
Walk With Me was a great success; check out the statistics by clicking here. Although rain threatened, the clouds parted just in time for the walkers to step off. We encourage all businesses to keep this event in mind for next year as actual participation doesn't even require a full evening after work. We had completed our six laps by 7 p.m., which gave us plenty of time for dinner with the fam.
We aren't sad that Mother's Day came and went so fast. We'll just continue saluting moms and momdom (momhood?) year-round. For some writing with mom appeal that Kathy does all year long, we suggest both her blogs, NativeMom and Mom's Braces.

Our nominee for All-American Mom: Susan Moor
Her work for Easter Seals and love for family make her our choice for a great role model
Susan at Walk With Me
earlier this month  | One of the consummate moms with whom we've frequently worked is Susan Moor, vice president of gift planning for Easter Seals Volusia and Flagler Counties. Susan mixes modern sensibilities with traditional values in her roles as an executive both at home -- she's a mom and stepmom -- and in her workplace. She has two children, David and Jamie, and two stepdaughters, Mindy and Abby.
David has special needs, and, when he was born, Susan decided to leave her job at United Way to work for Easter Seals mainly because the organization was providing so many services to David. Not only David, but also many other special-needs children, have benefited from Susan's advocacy. In fact, each year she spends a great deal of volunteer time working with the Darryl Gwynn Foundation to ensure a local child receives a motorized wheelchair. Thanks to her, at least four children in our area have received new wheelchairs. This gift takes a great burden off of families with children who quickly outgrow their current wheelchairs.
She has a demanding job at Easter Seals but focuses on her family as much as possible, attending all their soccer games, chorus performances and more. |
