A Modern Reflection of the Atlantic

What better
way to reflect the breath-taking scenery of the sugar sand beaches of the
Atlantic Ocean than the rectilinear forms, light plane surfaces and the visually weightless interior space of the Hull family's new St. Augustine home?
Designed by local architect Les Thomas and built by A.D. Davis, the three-bedroom, three-bath home is 5,600 square feet, including all decks and balconies. The first and second floors are constructed of concrete block, and the third floor is framed in wood. Stucco sheathes the entire house.
Some of the same elements that make the house so appealing also save energy. The light-colored exterior and insulated windows reflect the sun's heat to reduce air-conditioning costs.
In keeping with its modern
architectural or International Style, the home is devoid of applied exterior decoration, but its huge
windows take advantage of and mirror the Atlantic view. Inside, modern finishes and custom wood stairs with
steel cable railings echo the light, clean look of the exterior. An integrated pool and
house foundation design and a walkable roof deck make it easy for occupants to enjoy outdoor living. In fact, the first floor is entirely devoted to the seaside lifestyle, with a pool and an interior sitting area to get out of the sun and cool off. On the second floor, the kitchen, living room and dining room are all open to each other and flow together well. The third floor is the owners' oasis, containing the master bedroom and bath.
