Island Time Arrives
April 30, 2010

Plans for the next Caribbean Party are well under way, and new sponsorship opportunities are among those plans.

Save the date, and look for sponsored buffet stations -- such as the event's famous chocolate fountain -- plus new incentives and rewards for all levels of sponsorship, from Teacher ($500) to Superintendent ($2,500) status.

The Caribbean Party always is a great, casual evening for supporters of Volusia County Schools to gather, celebrate and enjoy fine food and drink.

The venue is the Riverfront Center at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Daytona Beach on the beautiful Halifax
.

Sponsorships Shine Light on Local Businesses
25th Logo
Greetings!

As 2009 winds down and FUTURES' 25th anniversary year draws nearer, our committees are hard at work, nailing down details and securing sponsors.

Two of FUTURES' big events are coming up -- the Bowl-A-Thon in February and the Caribbean Party in April -- and they will provide great, positive exposure for local businesses as well as financial support for our educational programs.

We are featuring the two fundraisers in this edition of our e-newsletter and asking members to spread the word: Sponsorships for each are available in several varieties and at various levels. Contact Beth Butera, FUTURES Director, for more information at (386) 255-6475 ext. 50730.

Giles Electric Powers Up Its Support For FUTURES

Giles Electric's Brad GilesBrad Giles and his company, Giles Electric of South Daytona, have turned the 40 trucks in their commercial fleet into rolling billboards for FUTURES Foundation for Volusia County Schools.

Special license tags and bumper stickers on each vehicle broadcast Giles' support  for public education, and particularly, the Foundation. FUTURES wishes to thank Giles Electric, which has provided commercial and residential services since 1970, for the additional $8,000 contribution provided by the license-plate purchase.

In fact, anyone who purchases the License For Learning tag donates $20 to our public schools for classroom mini-grants, dropout prevention programs, student and staff recognition activities, scholarship programs, leadership activities and community involvement programs. The Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles also offers gift certificates for the special tags, allowing purchasers to give them as gifts. The gift certificates are available at any authorized motor vehicle office (state DMV office, local tax collector's office or license tag agent). Visit www.license4learning.com for more information.

2010 Bowl-A-Thon About To Strike With Virtual Component

FUTURES is introducing an extension to its popular annual fundraiser, the Bowl-A-Thon, that might be right up your ally: Wii Bowl for Education.

In 2009, 72 teams filled 271 bowling lanes in five bowling centers across Volusia County over two days as part of our Bowl-A-Thon. This year, we'll expand to retail establishments and public spaces, as teams sign up to participate in "virtual" bowling events using Nintendo Wii game systems. All public schools in Volusia County will field bowling teams for the Bowl-A-Thon, plus teams and individuals can participate in a Wii bowling event at sponsored locations.

The goal of the 2010 Bowl-A-Thon, Feb. 20 through March 14, is to triple participation in the fundraising event, enlisting more than 5,000 bowlers, participating either live or "virtually," and raising $55,000 to support Volusia County public school classrooms.

For sponsorship opportunities, contact Beth Butera, FUTURES Director, at (386) 255-6475 ext. 50730.
