Greetings!
I want to thank so many people for the work we have today. Thank you for trusting us to provide your construction services. All of our jobs are so important to all of us, but they are vital to our employees. While unemployment is almost 10 percent nationally, unemployment in the construction industry is
closer to 20
percent. Our employees' positive attitude and good work ethic have been their hallmark since the beginning of the company 55 years ago. We are glad to have such a great team.
Currently, at Flagler College, we are renovating the Lewis House and restoring the cast-stone balusters on the Ponce Hall Towers, and we are working on the fence for Cathedral Parish
School. When we finish the River House Community Center, it will be a great asset to the St. Johns County Council on Aging and to our community.
This year, we completed the Bubble Room Restaurant, and I encourage everyone to visit; the food is great and atmosphere is unique! Read more about it and other 2009 projects in this edition of our newsletter. Michael A. Davis

Bubble Room Bursts Onto Scene
|
Diners and fans of kitsch are bubbling over about a "new"
place that opened at
100 St. George Street in May.
When the Bubble Room began serving lunch and dinner on
St. Augustine's
famous St. George Street walking mall, it was the first
time since 1998 that there
has been more than one of the restaurants on Earth.
A.D. Davis renovated 8,000 square feet of existing
retail spaces into a gift shop
on the first floor, which opened months before the
restaurant on the second
floor. The work included plumbing, heating, ventilation,
air conditioning and
electrical installations, according to A.D. Davis Project
Manager Kevin Gregory.
The project presented several challenges because of the
historic nature of the
location and the traditions of the business: Each room
has a unique theme and
decoration, inspired by Christmas, antique shops and old
Hollywood. Memorabilia from the '30s and '40s, toy trains, colored lights
and movie stills help to make
the restaurant unlike any other.
Some of the most complicated aspects of the job involved
things customers will
never even see. "We had to get creative with the
locations of the grease traps and
AC units," Gregory says. The gift shop's hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
Phone: (904) 819-0682. The
restaurant is open 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for lunch and
4:30 to 9 p.m. for dinner daily.

Elevating Historic Renovations |
Renovating and restoring Flagler College's historic St.
Augustine campus has
become a family tradition for A.D. Davis
Construction. Starting
with company founder A.D. Davis and continuing with
Vernon in the 1980's,
Mike Davis became the project leader in the mid-90's. In
2007, Rhett joined the
company and began managing the college project.
A.D. Davis has been involved in significant renovations
to Ponce Hall, built a century ago as Henry Flagler's Hotel Ponce
de Leon.
The latest project there is the renovation of the
terra cotta material on both of the towers, which had
deteriorated since its installation. It was in such bad shape that there was a risk
of pieces falling off.
"This has been a fun and challenging project to work
on," said Project Manager
Rhett Davis. "I have great respect for what Henry
Flagler's crew was able to
accomplish. The attention to detail on the towers is
really impressive. I've also
really enjoyed visiting that job because it gives the
most magnificent view of
St. Augustine from the top of those towers."
A.D. Davis worked together with St. Augustine Cast Stone
and Byron and James
to make cast stone replicas of the original pieces. There
is so much detail in the
original design that it took significant time to match
the shape and color of
the originals, but the new replicas will stand up for another
100 years.

| Medical Office Design Delivers "Harmony"
|
Turning two smaller spaces on St. Augustine's Flagler
Hospital campus into the now
luxury Harmony Medical offices of plastic surgeon Dr. Anh
Vu was far more than a
cosmetic procedure.
An A.D. Davis team led by project manager Kevin Gregory
recently completed the 1,800-square-foot renovation with an all-new electrical
system, plumbing, paint, ceilings and flooring.
Harmony Medical's four patient rooms, two offices,
restrooms, reception and waiting room
might not seem out of the ordinary on paper, but the
finishes make all the difference. Crown and chair-rail moldings, wall sconce lighting and
dark hardwood floors create an
environment more like a very comfortable home.
"Basically, we designed it to feel that way," Dr. Vu
says. "We had a vision." The design of the
office reflects Dr. Vu's practice, which he describes as
50 percent cosmetic and 50 percent
reconstructive. "Aesthetically, it looks like a spa, but
functionally it also works as a plastic-
surgery office."
The waiting room feels like a family room in a high-end
home. Granite countertops and custom cabinetry add to
the ambience. Exam rooms are equipped with plush leather
tables, a sound system to play soothing music and
flat-screen TVs.
All the luxury of Dr. Vu's boutique practice harmonizes
perfectly with the safety of the setting. He is certified by
the American Board of Plastic Surgery and is an active
member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Earlier
in his career, Dr. Vu completed a five-year general
surgery residency at level-one
trauma centers in Kansas followed by a plastics and
reconstructive fellowship at
the Medical College of Georgia. And his new facility is
situated just below the
operating room of a surgery center. "When you come, you
know you're going to
be safe," Dr. Vu says.
