Greetings!

In 1985, the song "We Are the World" and the movie "Back to the Future" were hits and, much in the spirit of those two blockbusters, the FUTURES Foundation for Volusia County Schools was born.

FUTURES was formed by members of the business community. These visionary leaders knew that having a high quality public school system was vital to building a growing, thriving economy. For FUTURES' 25th anniversary in 2010, we'll be celebrating the foundation's big achievements over the years and recognizing its successes.

With the inception of each new program, from Teacher of the Year to Taking Stock in Children, FUTURES has further directed resources toward areas of identified need, increasing community involvement and support, and encouraging open communication between the community and our schools.

Welcome New Board Members

The FUTURES Foundation welcomes the following new members to its board of directors:

Mike McKee of File Tech LLC, South Daytona

Your Company Can Be A Part of FUTURES Most Successful Program

The FUTURES Board is currently developing sponsorship opportunities that will allow your company or organization to award a grant to a deserving classroom teacher in the name of your business. Align your organization with one of our grant categories, including reading, math, literacy, science, technology, environmental, health & wellness, special needs and many more. Contact Beth Butera, FUTURES Director, for more information at (386) 255-6475 ext. 50730.
FUTURES Mini-Grants Taking Shape
Janet Gray
It's time for Volusia County public school teachers to prepare their FUTURES Mini-Grant proposals. The applications are due in school principals' offices for signature on Sept. 29.  Teachers at all levels of Volusia County Schools are eligible for the awards - ranging up to $1,500 each - to fund creative learning activities that school budgets can't cover. In 2008, FUTURES awarded 98 Mini-Grants, and the program surpassed the $1,000,000 mark in total awards, all sponsored by local businesses and civic organizations.
