October 26 audits: City takes action to improve controls

Equipment Replacement Fund - Sustainability and Transparency recommends improved controls over $4 million in annual expenditures; possible savings of $500,000 over five years. Public Works agrees and is taking action.
Lack of Support for Payroll Adjusting Journal Entries: Grant Revenue at Risk made recommendations to reduce risk of disallowance of grant funds. Even a one per cent disallowance would be a loss of $800,000 over 5 years. Finance and Health agree and are taking action.

School District/City partnership: Vision 2020 for Berkeley's children: progress in program evaluation and performance measurement.
Vision 2020 is an initiative of the Berkeley Unified School District, City of Berkeley, University of California, and community agencies and partners, aimed at closing the racial achievement gap in Berkeley public schools by the year 2020. The City Auditor's office worked with Mills Public Policy graduate student Carla Hansen this summer on the importance of prioritizing resources for measurement and evaluation.
