A common misconcception is that if an employee earns a salary he/she is not entitled to overtime pay. 

 

However, being given a salary alone does not mean the employee is not entitled to also be paid overtime. There are not many areas of employment or employees that are not entitled to overtime. The real test is whether the employee is supervising other employees, is an outside salesperson, has a professional license or degree, and is making significant decisions that substantially affect the business such as hiring or firing. Otherwise, the employer is required by federal law to pay their employees  overtime pay, even if that employee is salaried.  Some examples of common jobs that employers misclassify as not entitled to overtime include:

Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce Schmoozapalooza

 

On April 27th, the attorneys at Mazaheri Law Firm attended one of the largest networking events in the city, Schmoozapalooza.  With more than 1,000 Oklahoma City business leaders gathered at the State Fair Park it was quite an event.  Live music by Cplus, interactive activities, food tastings, and door prizes made this trade show unlike any other.

 

 

Our firm had the opportunity to give back to our Oklahoma City community volunteering at an event held by the Oklahoma Bar Association called Ask a Lawyer.  During the program, viewers could call in for free legal advice, a community service Oklahoma lawyers were providing in conjunction with the national celebration of Law Day.
