Vibrant BC Economy Depends on TruckingPaul Landry, President and CEO of the BC Trucking Association, highlighted the importance of the trucking industry for a healthy BC economy in his article featured in the September issue of TruckNews. As an Associate Member of BCTA, Travelers couldn't agree more! In order to remain competitive and overcome the dictates of present economic pressures on carriers, the need for innovative finance and lease solutions has never been greater. The realm of the possible is expanded when your financing partner of choice knows your industry, understands your challenges, and works with you to get you what you need to be on top of your game. |
Owner Operator Woes? Factor All Expenses per Mile!
Courtesy of Dave Raynsford of QuikX, excerpted from the September Issue of The Highway Chronicle.
Whether you are working for a corporate fleet or as a completely independent operator I am certain you will agree with the fact that the last year and a half has probably been your toughest in recent history in terms of revenue income. During times of economic uncertainty the seemingly insignificant cost associated with maintaining any business can become a matter of great concern.

| Transition Rules for HST
BC Ministry of Finance released proposed general transitional rules for the Harmonized Sales Tax (HST), which will - following legislation - become effective in July, ncluding guidance for services and transactions that straddle that date (e.g., passenger and freight transportation services) and considerations for leases and licences, among others. Generally, the transition rules are applied as follows:
The provincial sales tax (PST) will apply to the taxable sale of goods when the goods are delivered, or ownership of the goods is transferred, to the purchaser before July 1, 2010. The HST will apply to goods and services purchased on or after July 1, 2010. The HST will also apply to prepayments starting on May 1, 2010, for goods and services provided on or after July 1, 2010. The HST will not apply, however, to a service where 90 percent or more of the service is applied before July 2010 - in which case the PST will continue to apply where applicable.
