24/7 Support Gives Arlington Texas Peace of Mind
|
|
Arlington, Texas,
home to more than 350,000 residents, is rapidly growing and ranked as one of the top most visited cities in the United States. Because of its ever growing popularity, the city of Arlington knew they needed to
upgrade their emergency operations center (EOC). A team lead by Irish Hancock had one clear
goal in mind, to improve situational awareness in their control room by increasing
communications and sharing information.
The system would be the crux by which Arlington could increase response
time to stay one step ahead of natural disasters, traffic incidents, and
security issues, in an effort to better protect the city and its
residents. With Activu's collaborative
capabilities they would be able to easily connect multiple work groups and
remote sites over the network.

Activu sat down with Brian Gorman,
Director of Technology and Administration at the NJ Turnpike Authority's Traffic Management &
Technology Center, to
understand how the Authority and NJDOT have achieved a "Single View of
Traffic" in New Jersey.
Part I of our interview provides insight into how the
operations center was developed, how they are improving traffic management, and
how they've become a model for future TMCs. Part II of this interview will
be available in the next issue of vuPoint, November 2009.

New Whitepaper: Transitioning to a Smart Grid
|
|
The control room is the nerve center for grid management in the electric utility industry. The information display system functions as a
window into how everything is working. The right kind of information display
system can either help or hinder compliance with the new CIP regulations and
utility's Smart Grid initiative.
Download a free
whitepaper which examines the critical issues emerging from the FERC Smart Grid
'Proposed Policy Statement and Action Plan' which has direct implications to a
control room's information display system.

4th Generation Displays for Next-Gen NOCs
|
Walk into any current Network Operation Center (NOC) and you will see the glow
of seamless display walls showing live video camera feeds and statistical data
of real time patterns and information. These are video walls that, over the
last decade, have been an integral part of the shift to technologically advanced
NOCs, allowing for real-time and more efficient decision making.
Matt Krstulja,
Director of Sales, Mitsubishi Digital Electronics America, MegaView
Display Wall Products explains why fourth generation display walls are the way forward for both new TMCs and those in need of updating.
