DSAV offers Opportunities |
DSAV partners with Mohawk area schools
Mrs. Anissa Fracul, Job Coordinator at MohawkHigh School in Pennsylvania contacted the DSAV this past school year regarding a community program involving one of her students, Nicole Gallo. Nicole, who happens to have Down syndrome, is working toward her Diploma in June 2011. In addition to her studies at school, Nicole rotates through various sites throughout the community. Nicole's objective on her rather impressive resume is to "obtain a position in a work environment that will enable me to contribute and further develop my communication, social and office skills."
This past school year Mrs. Fracul and Nicole visited the DSAV Center for Success once a month and through the DSAV Work Inclusive Network (WIN) program. Nicole worked with co-founder, Michele Jones, in volunteering with the LAMP-Literacy, Arts and Math program at the center and also assisted with mailings, photocopying and general office duties. See some photos here.
It was a pleasure to work with Nicole and Mrs. Fracul and we are thrilled to continue this program in the fall. Any area schools that are interested in working with the Down syndrome Association of the Valley WIN program can contact Michele Jones at 330-726-3728 or email her.
