Literacy Materials Update |
|
LAMP - The Literacy, Arts and Math Program offers materials and resources for parents and educators to use in the home, the classroom or at the Center for Success ®.
Through a generous gift from the Estate of Sherry Freda, the Down syndrome Association of the Valley has implemented a Literacy Program for individuals with Down syndrome in our region. Providing worthwhile materials to meet the learning needs of children with Down syndrome is a major goal of this program.
The first learning program to be implemented in January 2010 was the See and Learn Language and Reading Program. This program was developed by Down Syndrome Education International which is a global leader in research and evidence based approaches to improving education for those with Down syndrome. See and Learn supports language learning and reading, number and mathematics, speech and memory development by providing clear, step-by-step guidance through graded activities that are designed to develop specific skills.
These activities can be practiced regularly at home, in groups or in the classroom. Contact Michele if you are interested in learning more about Literacy programs or obtaining a copy of the See and Learn Language and Reading Program for home use. Resources are provided free of charge to DSAV members and we ask that they be returned once the area of skill is mastered or you no longer need them. The DSAV will gladly provide one set or copy of the program/resource to schools and they are free to duplicate as needed.
LAMP "shines a light" on strategic programs and systems that suit the specific needs of those with Ds. Dates and times may also be scheduled for specific age groups to work on various programs at the Center for Success ® or other specified locations.
