Car seat safety is crucial.

If you have concerns about your child's car seat and/or your child is able to get out of the carseat while you are driving - it is time to have the car seat checked.

The American Academy of Pediatrics has information on their website about car seat safety and when children can transition from rear facing to front facing to booster seats.

Locate a child seat safety check location here.

The Beatitudes for the Exceptional Child

Andre Masse C.S.E.

Blessed are you who take time to listen to difficult speech for you help us to know that if we persevere we can be understood.

Blessed are you who walk with us in public places and ignore the stares of strangers for in your companionship we find havens of relaxation.

Blessed are you who never bid us to "hurry up" and more blessed you who do not snatch our tasks from our hands to do them for us, for often we need time more than help.

Blessed are you who stand beside us as we enter new and untried ventures for our failures will be outweighed by the times when we surprise ourselves and you.

Blessed are you who ask for our help for our greatest need is to be needed.

Blessed are you who help us with the graciousness of Christ Who did not bruise the reed and quench the flax for often we need help we cannot ask for.

Blessed are you when by all these things you assure us that the thing that make us individuals is not in our peculiar muscles, not in our wounded nervous system, not in our difficulties in learning but in the God-given self which no infirmity can confine.

Hello Members & Friends,

Here is the last e-newsletter for 2009.

Don't forget about DSAV Story time on Saturday, January 9th.

Our first legal lecture for 2010, Developments in Special Education will be on Saturday, January 30th with attorney Judith Saltzman from Hickman & Lowder in Cleveland.  The lecture will be from 10:00 until noon at the Center for Success.  See below for details.

We can't thank our members, contributors and sponsors enough for making 2009 a wonderful year for the Down Syndrome Association of the Valley.  We wouldn't be able to make the legislative, educational or community awareness strides we've made without you.

One final note, if you would like to make a tax deductible contribution for 2009, your donation must be postmarked by December 31st.  You can also donate through Paypal or with a credit card on line through the donation button on our web site.

 MaterialsLiteracy Materials Available

Through the DSAV LAMP (Language, Arts and Math Program)  and the Sherry Freda Fund, we are pleased to offer early literacy materials to our Trumbull County families and educators.

We currently offer materials from Down Syndrome Education International, a global leader in research and evidence based approaches to improving education for those with Down syndrome.

These materials may be signed out and used until your child masters each level.  We then ask that the materials (minus your child's progress reports) be returned for other families to use.

The See and Learn Language and Reading program offers a structured, visual approach to early language learning, ideally suited to young children with Down syndrome. Developed by expert language and reading researchers and therapists, the program offers step-by-step guidance, resources and records sheet to chart progress.

Contact us or call 330-726-3728 to get your See and Learn Language and Reading kit.

For families outside of Trumbull county, please contact us and we will work on arrangements to make the kits available to you.
