Yahoo Breaks Ground in Lockport Industrial Park
David E. Dibble, Executive Vice President of internet giant Yahoo! presided over groundbreaking ceremonies August 12 in the Lockport Industrial Park. The ceremonies marked the commencement of construction of the $150 million data center. At the June 30 announcement of the selection of the Lockport site, Yahoo! had agreed to locate the 180,000 square foot facility and 75 facilities engineers and technicians in exchange for an incentive package which includes 15 megawatts of hydropower and a 20-year tax abatement package from the Lockport Industrial Development Agency. Target date for completion of construction is September, 2010.
Site work for the Yahoo! data center began in mid-August and is progressing quickly. The Yahoo! data center will be included as part of the site tour of the Lockport Business Showcase September 24.

Town Offers
"Universal Application"
In response to input from local developers, the Town of Lockport has made the application process easier for new business ventures by consolidating numerous departmental application forms into a "universal application". Lockport Town Supervisor Marc Smith fashioned the "Development Checklist" to ensure that those submitting proposals for building permits, planning board review, zoning board review or industrial development agency approval would only need to complete one application form. "We expect that this new application form will make the development process easier and faster for business people to build in the Town of Lockport," Supervisor Smith said.
