| Encaustic Circle Newsletter - January 2012 |
Dear ,
Happy Valentine's Day to you!
It's a nice tradition to spread love and warmth in the midst of winter, so this month I'm sending everyone who places an order one pink wax bl ock!
My personal favourite is #37 Neon Pink, which sounds a bit intense, but you just have to try it out. It's a pretty transparent colour, as opposed to Pink #24, which is opaque.
You can state your preference on your order and if you're so totally not into pink, you may choose any other colour!

Featured artist: Kindrie Grove
|
is a wildlife and equine artist, who recently discovered the magic of adding beeswax to her work. She is a professional artist, working two- and three-dimensional, with over ten years of teaching experience.
She also has a fabulous website where you can find her online instructions. I've taken several classes with her here in Penticton.
Kindrie came to my studio one morning and we "played" together. I showed her how to add beeswax to her drawings and make texture. Being the accomplished artist which she is, she did not need much instruction.
The small wall hanging to the right (6x19") features her graphite and charcoal drawings of horses. Kindrie created the collages on handmade heavy-weight paper incorporating with stone, wood and metal with the help of beeswax. She also used stamps to create texture.
Below is a picture of Kindrie in her booth at the Calgary Stampede Artists Studios in 2011.
If you are attending the Stampede next year, be sure to go and visit her display of phenomenal paintings!

I'd Rather Be in the Studio
| |
For several years now I've been a fan of art biz coach Alyson B Stanfield and I enjoy getting her weekly emails with useful marketing tips. I've also taken her BlastOff workshop last year which was so inspiring.
Alyson Stanfield's book I'd Rather Be in the Studio! The Artist's No-Excuse Guide to Self-Promotion is the most comprehensive self-promotion advice out there for artists. And not only is it packed with information, she also shows artists of all kinds how to implement each action step.
I can also attest that the book is well designed, easy to follow, and a pleasure to look at (graphically).
I just love the big red exclamation point that I see on the spine when it sits on my bookshelf!
Disclosure: If you follow these links and make a purchase at some point, I might make a small percentage of that sale. Be assured that I do not recommend anything that I am not a big fan of!
