Encaustic Circle Newsletter - December 2011
Dear ,

December already! This will probably be the last newsletter this year and I hope that you have enjoyed receiving an update about encaustic in your inbox each month. For me it was a personal victory not having missed one, even with nasty and time-consuming treatments going on!

That is now all behind me and I am happily looking forward to 2012.

On the second  Sunday of the Lobby Gallery at the Lakeside Resort it was very busy indeed. At the same time Community Christmas Market was held in the ballroom, with many vendors, so lots of traffic through our area. I got to speak to many nice folks and did some demos.

Bill Hibberd was there also, painting a portrait of Bethany Handfield

I got some nice shots of him working. More about Bill below.

Very exciting was that I sold 4 paintings! Those Copper Hills was the first, followed by Rift and my two remaining little crow paintings

The Lobby Gallery at the Penticton Lakeside Resort will return one last time on Sunday, December 18, from 11 - 4 PM

Bill Plein Air

This month I'd like to turn the spotlight onto Bill Hibberd, a fellow artist from our local FCA chapter. Bill is an artist from Summerland, B.C., who likes to explore the textures, values and colours of oils in response to his surroundings. He works organically, attempting to arrange all the elements of the subject matter before him into a unified whole.

Bill is an active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists. His self-portrait was featured on the cover of the FCA's Art Avenue (Jan/Feb 2010). He has garnered Best of Show, People's Choice awards, and several honorable mentions in several FCA exhibitions.

At the moment he is on a mission to paint a large collection of portraits and has invited his friends to sit for him. Above was a picture of him painting Bethany Handfield and I posed for him this week. Can't wait to see the finished work!

Bill's Artist's Statement

"I believe we are never more human than when we create with our hands and minds. I believe the artist's privilege is to be a conduit of visual beauty. My paintings are a search into my spirit and an outreach to my fellow humans."

Below is one of Bill's latest paintings:
