Dear ,

in a couple of days people celebrate Thanksgiving here in Canada and I realize I have so much to be thankful for! Most of all for all my wonderful friends, near and far. Please know that I tremendously enjoy your comments and messages; it makes me feel part of one big artsy family!
I'm also very grateful that I have finished my treatments and really feel my energy returning. Being able to take part in many exhibitions and teaching again has been great.
My hair is growing back nicely too, though quite grey (let's call it platinum!), and it even starts to curl at the back...;-))

My wish for you is that you too have many things in your life you can be thankful for.

 Red Dots!

The turnout at the opening of  UNTANGLED on Sept. 8 was fantastic! Even with all that was going on in town, people took the time to drop by and view our paintings. Thanks so much everyone for coming; it meant a lot to us.

And what is even better: between Bethany and myself we sold 6 pieces!

More info on my blog.

IEA Retreat in Portland. OR
The next adventure Bethany and I embarked on was traveling to the International Encaustic Artists Retreat near Portland together.
Here we are, just before leaving Kaleden, in front of a pretty full car. What on earth IS all that stuff?? We're only gone for 5 days....

We got held up at the border a bit, because I had forgotten to fill out the visa waiver papers (life is more complicated if you have a Dutch passport!). Bethany waited patiently until all my fingerprints were taken and then we entered the States.

The next day we arrived safely at the fantastic McMenamins Edgefield Hotel, connected with old friends, made new ones, nurtured our Inner Artist (and our bodies!), learned lots of new stuff, (BOUGHT lots of stuff!), exchanged paintings (I got Holly's!!), soaked in the fabulous huge hot salt water pool, sampled wine, strolled through the vegetable garden....

On the last day the Canadian members of IEA got together over lunch and decided to form a new chapter, covering Canada! We are in the process of figuring out if we want one big chapter, or split it up in Western/Eastern chapter. If you are a member of IEA, live in Canada and have not heard from me yet, do contact me, so I can forward you the information.

If you are not a member of International Encaustic Artists yet, I encourage you to check out their great website and find out all they have to offer. There are already several chapters in the USA, but it would be wonderful to get more European members!

Exhibitions in the South Okanagan

On the last day of the juried FCA show For the Love of Art I visited the gallery in Osoyoos and connected with a lady from Calgary, who was very interested in my paintings. She ended up buying "Hills & Trees2"!

This series sure has been very successful and I'd like to add a couple more.

A new exciting show opened on October 1 at Nk'Mip Cellars in Osoyoos. The exhibit features works from the artists of the South Okanagan and I have three paintings in the show.

The one below was inspired by Ellen Koment's demo at the retreat; she showed us working with graphite and pigment powders. The show runs until October 29.

Proceeds will go to the BC Cancer Foundation.

You can put them in with your supply order, or you can email me if you only want the cards.

In the store: new stylus!
New Stylus
New Stylus

Finally the new stylus has arrived in North America!
For a long time we had to make due with the European model; it either came with a converter plug, or had to outfitted with the N.A. plug, which was a costly option for me!

This stylus is different from the old one in that it has screw-in tips, so the old attachments won't fit.
It comes with 2 drawing tips and 1 wire brush, like the old stylus.
I hope that I can offer different shapes in the near future.

Useful Videos

Recovery Panes:

At the retreat fellow artist Kelly Williams gave an incredibly powerful talk on her project working with people recovering from addictions.
Participants in this multi-phased community project created small encaustic paintings, representing their personal experiences, strength and hope.

Here is a picture of our Okanagan Falls home, with the large deck and my studio window at the lower left. Can you believe that the deer are frequently looking in to see what I'm up to?

The view is spectacular, it's nice and quiet AND the house is for sale.... ;-))
