| Encaustic Circle Newsletter - September 2011 |
Dear ,
September already...this summer sure went by fast! But it is still balmy here in the Okanagan and I hope you too are enjoying the final warm days. I've been adding to the heat, with my hot palette and propane torch, creating new paintings for the upcoming exhibition Untangled (see below).

Don's painting panels
|
Several of my latest paintings have been created on sturdy birch panels, which were made by Don, husband of my dear friend Carol Munro. I especially like the wider MDF cradle, which makes it easy to attach the panel to a front-loading frame with metal offsets. Prices of the panels start at $3.00 for a 6x6 size and Don can make any size you need. He will gladly take custom orders! |
|
Useful Videos
| |
So, when you've got your panels from Don, you might want to start your painting on a white ground. There are several encaustic gessos on the market, but you can also glue a piece of white paper to your panel.
This video by Susan Crouse-Kemp explains it all perfectly:

Then, when your painting is finished and you want to put it in a front-loading frame, here's a video which displays how to attach it with the help of above mentioned offsets:
 | | What the heck are offsets, anyway? |

|
Bethany Handfield and I will head out to Portland this month to attend the 2011 IEA Retreat. I'm very much looking forward to this road trip in such fun company and to meet all my old friends from last year. More about our trip in next month's newsletter!
Happy Painting!
