...March...can you believe it?! I'm declaring winter officially OVER!

We did have some snow last week, and it came at a bad time as I had to drive to Kelowna, but now spring is definitely in the air.

I'm sending you some early butterflies here: a little wax-resist exercise on watercolour paper, after a technique from the Wax Works West new DVD Encaustic + Paper. I highly recommend the DVD; it is super fun to watch Daniella, Judy and Wendy demonstrating tons of exciting projects.

Zentangle: the Zen of Drawing

In the January Newsletter I showed you my exploits with printmaking and this month I want to share with you my new-found joy in drawing.

Tangle1
My first tangle

I do like to try out new stuff and had been eying the new way of doodling: zentangles. It seemed to me a good way to beat stress and make some neat artwork at the same time.

So I ordered Totally Tangled, by Sandy Steen Bartholmew, got a few Pigma Micron pens and a nice notebook and off I went.

There are not many rules to tangling and if there are any, nobody will beat you up for breaking them, so I found it all very relaxed.

Here are a few of my tangles.

A word about my workshops
Hooray for friends!

Many people have asked me about workshops for this year and I got several requests to teach outside of the Okanagan, but so far I had to disappoint everybody.

It is hard for me to predict my energy in the time between my treatments. These will go until Mid summer and I do not want to plan workshops and then have to cancel them.

But I do have some marvelous friends here, who said they would help me run the courses, so I hope to be able to get back into teaching. I really miss the excitement of the classes and the interaction with my students!

Featured artist: Victoria Wallace
In this section I'd like to highlight one of you! Please email me if you'd like to featured here. It's great exposure: my newsletter reaches over 1000 people, who are all eager to learn more about you.

Victoria Wallace

This month's featured artist is Victoria Wallace.

Victoria signed up on my Ning network for Encaustic

in the summer of last year and she has been a tremendous asset on the site through her knowledgeable comments and free sharing of advice with the other members.

And, good news for Encaustic artists in Canada: Victoria's husband Scott runs an art supply store, Victory Art Supply, in Peterborough, Ontario, which carries

all R&F waxes AND the R&F Encaustic Gesso

. It's the only place I know of in Canada where you can get the gesso.

He has no website, but his number is 705.536.3051 and email is victorygroup@cogeco.com.

Victoria's bio:

Victoria Wallace is a multi-media artist working and conducting workshops in acrylic, encaustic, and sculptural media. She has operated a successful mural and specialty paint finish company in Toronto for over 25 years. Her extensive commissions include work for television, film, theatre, restaurants, businesses and private collections across Canada and internationally.

Her paintings reflect the "trompe l'oeil" influence mastered through years of mural painting. In her acrylic, encaustic and multi-media artworks, Victoria infuses luminance within her subjects, which range from high realism to abstraction.

Victoria received her first ever Ontario Arts Council Grant for her art exhibition with Eric David last fall at The Art Gallery of Peterborough, called "In Transit- The Ongoing Journey From Here to There", in which they had recorded dialogue, sounds and music accompanying each piece of our art work.
