| Encaustic Circle Newsletter - February 2011 |
Dear ,
are you snowed in?? Can't bear any more of the white stuff?? Muscles aching because of ceaseless snow-shoveling?? We were lucky here in the Okanagan for a while, but today the sky is dumping loads and the garden looks enchanted.

What great time to stay indoors and play with hot wax...;-) Perhaps creating some Valentine cards for your loved ones. Have fun!

Small, smaller, smallest

Latest project:
I really fell in love with the small cradled wood panels from Opus. They are 2x3x1.5".
You might remember the series of 4 crows I did on different coloured backgrounds? They ARE for sale, although I almost would be sad to see them go...;-)

For my next project I coated 4 similar panels. This time I wanted to make use of some photographs I took on a visit to our Farmer Market. I traced a whole bunch of people, filled in the shapes with black marker and printed the sheet off on my laser printer.
These images were then transferred onto the wax surface. Because they were so small the impact was not great enough and I added some extra black wax with the stylus. Not easy, for you can imagine the shapes were very small!
Here is how they came out: I call them "Encounters".

Exhibit: A Little Bit of Everything: Feb: 3 - 24, 2011
|
Last Thursday A Little Bit of Everything opened at Leir House Cultural Centre in Penticton.
 | | GREED | For the fourth consecutive year the Art Council invited its members to show of their arts & crafts. I feel proud to have been one of the initiators of this kind of exhibition, which gives everyone a chance to see his or her art featured in a real show. We have had weavers, potters, painters, photographers, rug hooking folks and more.
Over the years, as the group of artists working in Encaustic grew, more and more Encaustic pieces have been entered in the show and I'm very proud of that! I've three pieces in the show, two mixed media collages and a little portrait: Greed.
