Encaustic Circle Newsletter - January 2011
Dear ,

Happy New Year to you!

After all the festivities of the past month it's time to get back into the studio and let the creative juices flow.

I did so by temporarily abandoning my beloved waxes and venture into the world of (screen) printing with acrylic inks. It was great fun and I wrote extensive on it on my blog.

You can see some of the results below.

Playing with my screen printing set

Opus had a sale on last month, and the deluxe screen printing set caught my eye. I've always been intrigued with printing processes and had no idea what screen printing was all about, but the instruction with the set were clear and I was ready for my first screen printing experience.

I printed off my profile picture black and white, with great contrast, and cut out the areas I wanted to show in colour with a craft knife, making a stencil. This stencil was placed beneath the screen.

The screen then was "flooded" with blue acrylic printing ink, spread out with a special squeegee.

Next step was the printing stroke, to push the ink through the netting onto the paper.

My very first screen print! I was hooked and printed off 12 more self portraits on heavy Stampin"Up card stock.

Cleaning up was a terrible chore though...ink everywhere!

Perhaps I should stick with wax...??

Encaustic & Valentine
Have you ever worked with the transparent or outline stickers and encaustic wax? It is great fun and very easy to make stunning embellishments for your cards or mixed media projects.Valentine

The process is simple: smooth some colours on the encaustic painting card with the iron, use the lifting or edge-sliding technique to make interesting patterns. Then polish the wax.

Peel off one of the stickers, place on the painted card and cut around the sticker. You can then use this embellishment to stick on your card project with dimensionals (double-sided glue cushions).

Until Valentine's Day, February 14,

I will add a sheet of heart stickers to every order over $25.00!

(as long as supply last,

one sheet per order)
