| Encaustic Circle Newsletter - December 2010 |
Dear ,
the preparations for the holiday season are in full swing and this week I have been at the post office often with laundry baskets full of packages. No, I'm not sending presents to distant friends or relatives! Instead I have been trying to catch up with backed-up orders. The irons and styluses were out of stock for a while, but they finally arrived and I hope everyone will get their supplies in time before Christmas.
Thank you so much for your continued support this past year. I received many nice emails, beautiful cards and personal phone calls from all across Canada. The best thing about running this little business is the personal contact with you!
In the coming months I have to take some time off from teaching to take care of my health. As soon as I see that my energy is returning I will post my course schedule.

Instructional DVD | ENCAUSTIC MONOTYPES: Painterly Prints with Heat and Wax by Paula Roland
This instructional DVD Encaustic Monotypes by artist/instructor Paula Roland comes highly recommended. I have a little DVD player in my studio and watch a section, then try to follow Paula's instructions. She is a real genius with the HOTbox and watching her paint is very entertaining. It so happens by a weird twist of faith that Paula and I are facing similar health issues at the same time and I really want to support her. Please consider buying the DVD and/or HOTbox for an artist friend or put them on your wish list for yourself. For my friends in Canada: you will soon be able order the DVD via my online store and save yourself the hassle of international shipping! Email me now to reserve your copy! (I won't be able to carry the HOTbox, so please contact Paula directly)

Featured Guest Artist: Wilma J. Lopez
|
For this section I'd like to highlight a different artist working in Encaustic each month. Please email me if you would like to be featured here. This newsletter reaches more than 900 Encaustic enthusiasts, who are all eager to learn more about you.
This month's featured artist is Wilma J. Lopez.
Award-winning artist Wilma J. López first saw a demonstration of encaustic art in a shopping center in Maryland in the nineties. Fascinated, she was determined to teach herself how to paint using this exotic, but ancient medium. Nearly fifteen years have passed since Ms. Lopez began painting with encaustic wax. Since that time, Wilma has become a nationally renowned encaustic painter who has won numerous awards on both coasts of the United States. Ms. Lopez is a member of several regional art associations. Wilma teaches beginning and intermediate classes of encaustic painting. Wilma's artist statement:
"Through my encaustic paintings I try to create unique original works which perfectly balance my knowledge of color and technique. I am self-taught and I have spent many hours learning and perfecting my art. My usage of color and design is a reflection of the freedom I experience working in this very challenging medium."
