Encaustic Circle Newsletter - November 2010
Dear ,

here's a wonderful quote by Edgar Whitney:
"There are only two things that matter in life - your friends and your art. Everything else is worthless."

As I mentioned in my last newsletter that I was having health problems so many of my friends sent me warm wishes, cards, emails...it was fantastic! I'm doing great now, not out of the woods yet, but confident that this is just going to be a "bleep on my radar".

Featured Guest Artist: Shelley Wuitchik

For this section I'd like to highlight a different artist working in Encaustic each month. Please email me if you would like to be featured here. This newsletter reaches more than 900 Encaustic enthusiasts, who are all eager to learn more about you.

Shelley WuitchikThis month's featured artist is Shelley Wuitchik.
I met Shelley for the first time at the International Encaustic Conference in Montserrat two years ago. With her bright smile and bubbly personality she is an incredible fun person to be around. We shared meals and conversations and when it was time to head home she took me under her wings and got me safely to the airport.
I guess I did not make a very sophisticated impression to be able to negotiate several trains and subways on my own....;-)

But Shelley did invite me to take part in the show Hot Wax, opening Nov. 13 at the Coast Collective!

Shelley's artist's statement:
For me, art is all about the process--being spontaneous, flowing with the emotions that come when playing with colour, light and texture.

Appeal of Arbutus
Shelley Wuitchik, Appeal of Arbutus
While I enjoy creating with acrylics and pastels, encaustic painting is my passion. What could be more fun than melting beeswax infused with vibrant pigment, embedding found objects from my home and travels all the while building layers upon layers of unexpected textures?

My subject matter mirrors my life which is also multi-layered and enriched by the texture of family, friends, travel and all the excitement of new beginnings. I live near the ocean with my husband Michael, and two gigantic labradoodles, Finnegan and Marley. My studio overlooks an asian watergarden created by Michael- no wonder I am inspired by the ebb and flow of nature and the seasons.
