Encaustic Circle Newsletter - July 2009
|
Greetings!
the Third International Encaustic Conference at Montserrat College of Art was everything I had dreamed it would be and more! Image three days of constant immersion in everything Encaustic and me in the middle... I shared a spartan room on campus with Susan, the most agreeable roommate you could image and a great artist too, which I discovered on my last evening as she casually showed me her portfolio. Just hoping that I ingested a little bit of her talent while we bunked! Here you see Joanne Mattera, conference director, during the opening of one of the four exhibitions that were going on during the Conference. On my Ning social network on Encaustic you can find more about my experiences in Montserrat and view photo albums of the workshops I took with Eileen Goldenberg, Jeff Schaller, Alexandre Masino, Andrea Bird & Cynthia Winika.

Encaustic "On the Road"
|
The 3 day workshop in Williams Lake, B.C. introduced 12 eager ladies to Encaustic. We had so much fun, not only during the classes, but they'd prepared a super potluck dinner as well! Here you can see the little collages we did on Sunday morning. My next trip will be to Vernon, Saturday July 4, for a demo at Nadine's Fine Art & Framing store from about 11 - 2. Drop in, if you're in the neighbourhood! You can also sign up for one of the two Basic workshops, July 18. If you'd like me to teach in your area, please get in touch or come to one of the workshops here in the Okanagan. See the course schedule on my website.

The return of the RipOff Artists....
|
This is one of my favourite projects of the year!
"After shamelessly pilfering from Van Gogh and Klimt, The RipOff Artists now have "Georgia on Their Minds".
See them exploit Georgia O'Keeffe's Pink Tulip during Arts Week from July 20 - 25 at the Quail's Nest Art Centre in Oliver, B.C." Come out Saturday, July 25, to see us all frantically work to be finished by the 3 PM deadline!
We're a group of 9 artists, all different media, and each of us will create our own version of the O'Keeffe painting, trying to challenge ourselves to go out of our comfort zones....

O.S.A. Weeklong Encaustic workshop in July
|
There are still a few spaces in the courses I will be teaching with the Okanagan School of the Arts in Penticton, running July 27 - 31, from 9:30 AM - 12:30 PM.
You can chose to take just 2 days Basics, the full week, or 3 days Advanced, if you already have some experience with Encaustic. |
Featured Guest Artist: Gisele
|
For this section I'd like to highlight one of you each month. Please email me your favourite Encaustic painting. If possible with a short story.
This month's painting is from Gisele Chase from Victoria. The lovely Feathers is 12 x 16" and painted on black painting card with the stylus brush.
