Encaustic Circle Newsletter - June 2009
Greetings!

many thanks to those of you who gave me such great feedback on the new format of the Newsletter! All your names went in the hat and Linda M. from P.E.I. won a box of waxes of her choice. Congrats, Linda, and I hope you can put them to good use.

There were some problems with my social network on Encaustic on Ning....
Somebody signed up with less than honourable intentions and started sending nasty messages to the members! Horrified I banned that person and made a new rule that I have to approve new members before they can join. It is not a perfect solution, but it might deter some of those creeps!
A special thanks here to Camille Scott of Encausticreations, who mentioned the Ning site in her newsletters! Many of her followers joined the network.

Here's a quick overview of past and future activities in our ever-growing Encaustic world:
Encaustic "On the Road"
SkahaLake-EntreLacProject

Last week Carol M. and I participated in the Ecole Entre Lacs art project in Penticton. For Carol it was the first time; I've been with it from the beginning, 3 years ago. The idea is to pair each student up with an artist. Together they will create a painting in one schoolday in the style of the artist.
Here's the painting I did with my student.
The painting Carol did with her students turned out great as well and we had a lot of fun!

My next trip will be to Williams Lake, June 12 -14, to teach through the Cariboo Art Society. Then later this summer I'll be in Vernon and Whitehorse.
I love loading up my car, drive across beautiful B.C. and meet all those wonderful artists! I'll be flying to Whitehorse, though...;-)

If you'd like me to teach in your area, please get in touch or come to one of the workshops here in the Okanagan. See the course schedule on my website.
Featured Guest Artist: Anita
Fleurs des Champs, AnitaLFor this section I'd like to highlight one of you each month. Please email me your favourite Encaustic painting. If possible with a short story.

This month it's Anita Laplante from Quebec with a lovely landscape. Anita only recently started with Encaustic, and she is very excited about her first results. And rightly so!

Off to Montserrat: Third International Encaustic Conference
Montserrat College of ArtThe countdown is on! The Third International Encaustic Conference starts on Friday, June 5 in Montserrat College of Arts.

I'll hopefully be rubbing shoulders with "Encaustic icons" like Joanne Mattera, Eileen Goldenberg and Linda Womack, just to name a few.
And come face to face with some girls I have never met, but who have become great friends over the years, like Andrea, Maura, Ruth, Lorna and others.

If you are on Twitter, you can follow my Tweets. I'll try and send updates as often as I can!
I've not been able to produce another video yet (don't ask - we're putting in a pool in the garden...), but you'll find a link to my Palette Knife Tutorial in the left column.

Wishing you all a wonderful summer, full of inspiration and great experiences!

Happy Painting,
