Encaustic Circle Newsletter - May 2009
Greetings!

welcome to my first new-format Encaustic Circle Newsletter!
I noticed with horror that my last Newsletter was from November 2008. That's certainly not the way to stay in touch with you all... So I decided to try something different.
I had a lot of fun designing and I hope you will enjoy this new look.
It also will make it easier for you to read as the PDF's I've been sending for the past 4 years.

Many of you have already signed up on my social network on Encaustic on Ning.
If not, please go and check it out! Our group has already almost 125 artists from all over the world. You might see some familiar faces!

To really come face to face join us in one of the workshops or circle meetings. For dates please view the Course Schedule on my website.

Here's a quick overview of past and future activities in our ever-growing Encaustic world:
Encaustic "On the Road"
In February I participated in the Naramata Art Conference, an art project with the Naramata Elementary School. Students had a chance to try out all kinds of different art forms, including Encaustic. With the much-appreciated help of Jane and Judy it was great fun.

Mid April saw me at the Tumbleweed Retreat in Cache Creek, giving several workshops and an evening demo. It was a wonderful experience, with many talented people. (at right: detail of Jenny's painting)
And I just got back from a weekend in Port Moody, where I taught 5 back-to-back courses at the Scrapbook store Cherish the Thought.

Other trips this summer will include Vernon, Whitehorse, Williams Lake and perhaps Creston.
If you're interested in any of those check out the course schedule on my website

Encaustic at the OSA Summer School in Penticton
Encaustic will return for the 5th. year to the Summer School program of the Okanagan School of the Arts.
This year's Encaustic workshop has been split up in two sections:
The first two days (July 27 + 28) will cover the basics and in the following three days (July 29 - 31) I will introduce more advanced techniques.
Classes go from 9:30 AM - 12:30 PM.

Feel free to suggest topics and I'll try to fit them in!
You can sign up with OSA. (250-493-0390)

Just arrived: another batch of the Special Effect (Bubble) Waxes!
The last batch sold out in a mere days and I immediately ordered some more. When spread out with the iron or one of the cauteria these crayon-shaped waxes produce a bubble effect, leaving little "holes" in the wax coat. Great effect for skies or underwater scenes.

At the moment I've 16 colours + white, and experience has shown they sell out fast...See colour chart here.
I hope you have enjoyed this new format Newsletter! If you have any suggestions for topics or would like to share your own story just let me know.

Please email me your feedback and I will enter your name in a draw for a 16 wax block set of your choice.

Happy Painting,

Thea Haubrich
