Precision CNC Turned Parts

Greetings!

In this month's newsletter, we will focus on the positive changes going on here at Avanti as it relates to "going lean" in the shop and tightening up our processes to become more efficient. For the last several weeks, management has been busy evaluating possible plant improvements.  Setup reduction, improve running efficiency, coming up with cost savings ideas and work-flow improvements to achieve customer goals are the priority.  As many are aware, the screw machine, especially the multiple spindle machines, such as Davenport & Acme Gridley machines, require conventionally made tools.  Various speed gears and cams, which control speed and feed rates of RPM & tools like "form tools", "shave tools", "drills", "reamers" and "threading".  Setup on these machines from job to job, due to all the various tools and attachments, is timely and easily affects a company's ability to perform and improve on time delivery.
Avanti is continuously making improvements to better our scheduling of equipment, pre job preparation, and more capable setup support. Improved PM (preventive maintenance) programs, not only improve our setup time but also keep our equipment in better condition. This allows for higher efficiency job runs with less downtime at higher PPM. Our commitment to this constant internal evaluation continues to improve our on time delivery and quality performance!
Work in this field is an ever changing environment. Customer commitment's are less and their quality standards, higher. Avanti Engineering, Inc.personnel have the experience and the ability to perform difficult tasks on machines which were never designed to handle the newer and higher quality conscious parts. As I mentioned above, this is vital to survive a much different manufacturing world. You have my commitment that we will do our best to provide continuous improvements, to better supply our customers needs!  I would like our customers and prospects to remember that "firm delivery dates" on P.O.S,  play a extremely large role in our ability to schedule our equipment and improve "in house" performance and improved on time delivery! the resulting longer customer commitments, equals reduced cost across the board for everyone! The next time you place an order, remember to ask, "Is there a price reduction for blanket orders with firm releases?"
In addition:
Avanti has formed a new EngineeringRoundtable Layout Committee. These individuals will include, the Engineering Manager John Gaberek, Plant Manager Apolonio Esquivel and at least one setup man from the respective department. (I.e. Davenport, CNC, Acme Gridley).  They will discuss and dissect "first time runs". Their goal: To put together the most efficient and productive manufacturing layout.  This will provide a more thought out, expeditious setup process, for a more aggressive approach, to produce faster and precise results.
Thanks for reading news about Avanti Engineering, Inc. My intent is to keep the news about real topics which we can all relate too.  AS always, if you have any ideas or topics you would like me to cover, please email me. I will try to address these ideas in future newsletters. Thank you for your business

Material Impacts Report - April 2010
Through the Roof!
Material pricesPrices of raw materials used to make precision machined products are up substantially, from 44% to 114% from March 2009 - March 2010 for 6 of the 7 materials we track. Low inventories, increasing demand and idled production facilities are among the factors involved here in North America, as are the historic iron ore agreement and continued high demand in China. Fuel price increases also impact freight, which is an important factor in our business. We will not be shocked to see monies paid for steel in May to be $80 per ton higher than they were in April based on already announced price increases and the current price on busheling.  Read More
