Precision CNC Turned Parts

Greetings!

In this month's news...  The report on overall business, as it relates to "machined parts", is custom order urgency.  Orders have been relatively steady, with most having shorter lead times than normal.  "Ordering only what is urgently needed" seems to be the growing trend in the industry.   Smaller orders are giving specialty manufacturers (such as Avanti) additional problems.   These types of orders affect machine change over time, and require additional setups.  Reduced order quantities, lead times and order commitments adds to machine downtime and reduced employee and machine efficiency.
Avanti Engineering, Inc. design engineering know-how and our screw machine parts and products manufacturing expertise come together to satisfy the highest customer expectations for precision, to tailor the machining process for timely JIT deliveries and to include value solutions and fast cycle times to meet the challenges of cost.
If you would like us to quote any parts or if you have any questions whatsoever please feel free to contact me by phone or e-mail at any time without hesitation.
Thank you for your consideration.

Economic growth to keep metal prices strong

(Reuters) - As the global economy recovers from the worst recession in 70 years, industrial metals are expected to stay on a recovery path this year, but metal producers warn that the advance may be slow as demand remains shaky.

Among the positives for demand are the impact of lean producer inventories, government stimulus programs and Chinese consumption, analysts said. Global economic growth is starting to pick up as a result.

"We're not expecting particularly strong growth in the world outside China, but we are forecasting global growth will move from a decline of 1 percent in 2009 to a gain of 3.7 percent in 2010. That's a strong inflection point," said BMO Capital Markets global commodity strategist Bart Melek.

He also sees global industrial production recovering from a 12.5 percent decline in 2009 to a 3.2 percent rise in 2010.

That all means more demand for everything from copper pipes, to aluminum for auto and aircraft production and zinc for galvanized steel.

Dr. Ken Mayland's comments on the employment report for February.

Here's my quick take re Employment (3/5/10):

1. The numbers.  Nonfarm payrolls  fell 36k for February.  There were considerable worries that very disruptive weather in the East during the survey week (which always includes the 12th of the month) would have a depressing effect on payrolls.  Undoubtedly it did, to some extent.  For instance, the average workweek did fall 0.1 hours (mfg = -0.4 hours).  The Household Survey figures are less affected by weather, because a person can report being employed even if he was unable to show up for work.  The unemployment rate was unchanged in February, at 9.7%.  Furthermore, the Household Survey saw the labor swell 342k, those counted as employed increase 308k, those not in the labor force decline by 176k, and the employment-population ratio increase  one-tenth of a percent, to 58.5%.  These are unquestionably good indications.
