A Grand Farmers Market in the South Loop?
We are working to help create an exciting market in the south end of Grant Park this Summer!
The operators believe they can attract a maximum of forty farmers and vendors selling a variety of products including fruits, vegetables, fresh breads, crafts and other items as the market gets established. The market would be managed by the Bensidoun family; they operate the French Market in Ogilvie Station, as well as many markets in the suburbs and nearly 100 in France, Europe and other American cities.
Please come out for a presentation on the proposed Farmers Market for Grant Park. It's a first for Grant Park!
For more information, please see the following article on the Chicago Journal website. We strongly encourage South Loop residents to come to the meeting and voice support for this great event! Let's make this happen together!! Grant Park Conservancy and Advisory Council is hosting a public meeting: Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at 6:30 p.m. at Daley Bicentennial Plaza - 337 E. Randolph ( just east of Columbus Drive and down in the park). |
Glessner House Museum presents "Henry Richardson in the Landscape"
Tuesday May 17, 2011
Glessner House Museum, located at 1800 S. Prairie Avenue in Chicago's South Loop neighborhood, will host a lecture by architectural historian Timothy Wittman entitled "Henry Hobson Richardson in the Landscape" on Tuesday May 17, 2011 at 7:00pm. The presentation will investigate Richardson's interest in nature and the relationships between architecture and landscape. Of particular interest is the professional relationship between Richardson and Frederick Law Olmsted, the great landscape architect who created New York's Central Park and the grounds of the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago. Glessner House Museum is a National Historic Landmark and the last surviving work by Richardson in Chicago. Completed in 1887, the museum is recognized nationwide for its groundbreaking architecture as well as its important collection of arts and crafts decorative arts. The cost for the lecture is $10 per person and reservations may be made by calling 312-326-1480. The museum is easily accessible by taking the #3 or #4 bus south on Michigan Avenue to 18th Street, and then walking 2 blocks east |

City plans to build 1st indoor skate park
Located near 1600 - 1752 S. Clark
Presiding over his final City Council meeting Wednesday, Mayor Daley introduced an ordinance that calls for selling - for $1 - four city-owned parcels from 1600 to 1752 S. Clark to the Chicago Park District. The properties include a building that will be transformed in to the city's first indoor skate park.
A recycling center is currently at the site and will need to be relocated if the project develops further. We look forward to working with Alderman Pat Dowell on this effort. |

South Loop Elementary School News & Announcements

It's time to think of the 2011-2012 school year! Local School Council Meeting
The Local School Council (LSC) of South Loop Elementary School invites the community to an Open Forum on Wednesday, May 11, 2011, at 7:00PM. The event will be held in the school's main building at 1212 South Plymouth Court. An LSC is the governing body of each individual Chicago Public School. It is responsible for three main duties: approving how school funds and resources are allocated; developing and monitoring the annual School Improvement Plan; and evaluating and selecting the school's principal. As the South Loop School LSC reviews it primary responsibilities, it desires input from all of the stakeholders of the school community. This Open Forum will provide the opportunity for parents and community members to voice suggestions, praise, and concerns so that South Loop School will continue to improve. |
