Glessner House Museum presents "Music in the Mansion"
Sunday, April 17, 2011
The Glessner House Museum located at 1800 S. Prairie Avenue in Chicago's South Loop announces the first in a series of "Music in the Mansion" concerts.  The piano recital, to be performed on the Glessners' original 1887 Steinway piano, will be held on Sunday April 17, 2011 at 4:00pm with a reception immediately following.
The soloists for the afternoon will be Sebastian Huydts, Director of Piano and Keyboard Studies at the Music Center of Columbia College, and Elizabeth Newkirk, a 2010 graduate of Columbia College who holds a teaching appointment at
Sherwood School of Music.  Their program will include works by Beethoven, Brahms, and Mendelssohn.
John and Frances Glessner were major supporters of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra from the time of its inception in 1891, and John Glessner served as trustee for nearly 40 years.  Many of the leading musicians of the day were entertained in their Prairie Avenue home including Ignace Paderewski, Percy Grainger, Maud Powell, and Enrico Caruso.
The cost of the concert is $55 per person.  Advanced reservations to 312-326-1480 are required as seating is strictly limited.  Glessner House Museum is a National Historic Landmark.  Completed in 1887, the museum is recognized nationwide for its groundbreaking architecture as well as its important collection of arts and crafts decorative arts.
