Greetings!
We are just a few months into the new year, and already we are running at full speed at Teen Parents of Lubbock! There is a lot to update you on and so much to look forward to sharing with you this year. Thank you for your prayers and support as we continue reaching out to young moms and dads and their families in 2010!

Divine Appointments
"Do you believe in divine appointments?" I asked the 17 year old mom sitting in the passenger seat of my car.
"What is that?" she asked.
"Well, do you believe that sometimes God brings the right person at just the right time into our paths?"
I had not seen "Katie" in months. She was a regular at TPOL, but had disappeared awhile ago. I had called, sent text messages, and tried so hard to get ahold of her during the last few months, but to no avail. This particular afternoon I experienced, first hand, God orchestrating our paths to cross at just the right time!
Every Wednesday afternoon I join some of my teen moms for lunch in the cafeteria of their school. It is an alternative school for pregnant and parenting girls. Last Wednesday, however, I had a doctor appointment and couldn't make it. I told the girls I would have lunch with them on Thursday instead.
That Thursday just happened to be Katie's last day at school as she was being court ordered to drop out and get her GED. She had missed too many days of class. Since she had changed her number and I had not seen her in so long, I had no idea that all of this was going on.
When I ran into her that day she asked me if I could take her home. She had lost a lot of weight and told me she had not eaten much in awhile because she didn't have enough money for food. I took her out for a pizza and we talked. As she shared all that had been going on in her life since I last saw her, I knew without a doubt that my change of plans for the school lunch visit was not an accident at all. Katie was not at school on Wednesday and if I had gone on that day as originally planned, I would not have run into her!
Please pray for Katie this month as she is dealing with so much more than any 17 year old should have to deal with. She has agreed to come back to TPOL and start attending church with me again. Apart from God, Katie's life will continue spiraling out of control. Please pray that she will begin to see that He has an amazing plan for her life if she will just trust Him.

Emily Mulkey... Forever in our Hearts
It is with a heavy heart that I share with you that on January 27th one of our beloved mentor moms, Emily Mulkey, went home to be Jesus. Emily had fought a life long battle with cystic fibrosis and although we miss her terribly, we praise God that she is breathing free and clear now in His presence. Emily was an incredible and amazing young woman whose life inspired and encouraged more people than anyone will ever know. We are so blessed that she chose to share part of her short time here on earth with us. There were many days she would come to TPOL to spend time with "her girls" even though we all knew she was tired and in pain. She gave of herself selflessly and generously. Emily will never be forgotten and we are forever grateful to have known her. Please keep Emily's family and friends in your prayers during this difficult time.
