"With the infiltration and inflow project replacing the manholes and now the water main replacement project, please allow for extra time travelling on Sea Street and we appreciate your patience and understanding of these long needed infrastructure repairs."
Greetings!

Before the fall construction season ends, the City of Quincy will be completing infrastructure improvements including the current infiltration and inflow project work being done on Sea Street from Palmer to Manet Ave and the water main replacement from Manet Ave to Rockland Street. While inconvenient for many due to our peninsula design, these improvements are long overdue and I'm appreciative of Mayor Koch's commitment to infrastructure improvements in Ward One.

To follow up on last month's well attended meeting regarding seawall needs in our community, another meeting will be held on Wednesday, November 16th. The city's contractor, Tighe & Bond, is scheduling site visits for waterfront neighbors who want to raise a concern specific to their area. If you are unable to attend, please contact me with your address and contact information and I'm glad to forward it to our Public Works Team.

Many residents have been disappointed by the limited hours at the branch libraries. Please take the library survey and let them know your opinions as they prioritize their hours by location and their resource allocations for the next fiscal year. Now's our time to show the library director just how important the Adams Shore branch is to our neighborhood.

As I'm writing this, my boat is being shrink wrapped in my back yard. If you are still trying to figure out your off season boat storage needs, space is still available at the City's Bayswater property in Houghs Neck.

Germantown Neighborhood Center Director Kathy Quigley has asked me to remind Ward One residents that GNC isn't just for Germantown families but for all Quincy families. If you find yourself or your friends needing assistance this holiday season, please reach out to her and the GNC staff. They are aware of how difficult it is to ask for help and your privacy will be respected and treated with confidentiality.

With Ward One's active neighborhood associations planning for the holidays, I hope to see you at the many upcoming events. The Merrymount Association is hosting its Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning and of course I'll be cheering on my alma mater, Quincy High at Veterans Stadium at 10am. Best wishes to both the Quincy High Presidents and North Quincy Red Raiders and Happy Thanksgiving, Margaret

Community Meeting on Status of Seawalls,

Wednesday, November 16, 6pm at

Broad Meadows Middle School, 50 Calvin Road

In our continuing effort to keep you informed about this important public works initiative and to encourage your participation, the City of Quincy has scheduled a follow-up community meeting on the Seawall Assessment and Repair project.

The engineers at Tighe and Bond will be reaching out to residents who attended the first meeting during the week of November 13 to schedule appointments and provide you with additional opportunities to speak to them directly. They will be in Merrymount, Adams Shore, Houghs Neck, the Cove, and Germantown between November 28 and December 9 to inspect seawalls, finalize the Edgewater Drive seawall design and to address any private property issues along Edgewater Drive. Every effort will be made to accomodate resident's schedules.

Your continued interest and concern are most appreciated. As you are aware, the City of Quincy is committed to advancing the permitting and design of 3,300 feet of much needed seawall repairs and to complete a detailed assessment of all remaining city-owned seawalls.

 Sea Street Water Main Replacement

The water main under Sea Street is being replaced from Manet Ave to Rockland Street. The work consists of installing a new 8-inch water main to replace the existing water main constructed in 1903 and is expected to take 3 weeks. The contractor is going to begin staging in the area on Wednesday, November 16th and possibly grinding the trench if we get rain (to keep the dust down). If not, real activity will begin on Thursday, November 17th. Sea Street residents can expect minor disruptions in water service, but we will make every effort to provide 24 hours notice (unless we have an emergency or problem).

The project will have detail officers to help with traffic, and we have a traffic management plan worked out with the City's Traffic Engineer Jack Gillon. We will be allowing inbound traffic to Hough's Neck on Sea Street. Outgoing traffic will be detoured to Stoughton and/or Babcock. MBTA buses will be allowed to travel both ways on Sea Street, so bus service will not be disrupted. Emergency apparatus will also have access on Sea Street in both directions.

Abutters will receive notification from the contractor. If you have questions on this project, please contact our Public Works Department at 617-376-1957 or email Commissioner Raymondi draymondi@quincyma.gov

 Thomas Crane Public Library survey

The Thomas Crane Library is a great city resource and the library is asking for resident input to help shape the library's strategic plan and services. Please visit their website and take their survey. I heard from many Ward One residents who were disappointed that hours were reduced at the Adams Shore Library. Now's our chance to be heard that we want an increase in brach hours to be a priority as the library plans ahead for the next fiscal year. I have also requested that a book drop be installed at the Adams Shore branch.

The library's website is a great resource to access information, put an advance hold on a book you'd like to pick up, or to keep informed about upcoming programs. I am proud to be a member of the Friends of the Thomas Crane Library and request that you visit their webpage to learn more about how you can support our library. The Thomas Crane Library is also on Facebook. Please "like their page" and keep informed of library news.

Holiday Assistance and Wish List,

Germantown Neighborhood Center

During holiday months, families experience significant stress. This is when the Germantown Neighborhood Center is especially important. Every year the GNC collects toys and food for hundreds in need, assisting low to moderate income residents of Germantown and the neighboring communities in Quincy.

In these difficult economic times, we are seeing a drastic increase of families who need support. Families we have never seen before are using our services for the first time. These are working families who are struggling to make ends meet. If your family needs assistance this holiday season, please contact GNC Director Kathy Quigley at 617-376-1384 or email kquigley@ssymca.org

The Holiday Assistance Program relies on the assistance and support of local businesses, organizations and individuals to ensure its success each year. Your contributions enrich the lives of those less fortunate in our community. Below, please find our current holiday wish list. Donations can be dropped off at the Center, 366 Palmer Street or you may contact Kathy Quigley at (617) 376-1384. We thank you in advance for choosing to participate in the in the program this season.
