"With the storm tracking west and not coinciding with high tide, Quincy's coast fared well but we are very busy throughout the City cleaning up downed tree limbs."
Greetings!

While for many the storm is over, here on Rock Island Road the winds are blowing strong as the tide is coming back in. If you were standing on the street side of my home, you wouldn't even think there's a storm.

Ward One has had multiple power outages today. According to National Grid's website, Ward One currently has 350 customers without power with two outages in Merrymount, three each in Adams Shore and Houghs Neck and one in Germantown. Waban Road and Squanto Roads in Merrymount had a micro-burst come through and uproot large street trees and even parts of the sidewalk. Power lines were pulled off of homes and National Grid has been on site. We have street closures in every neighborhood with downed limbs, hanging limbs, and limbs pulling on power lines. Winthrop Street between Stoughton and Babcock, Sea Ave in Houghs Neck and Brockton Ave in Germantown have been closed most of the day. I've been out most of the day talking to residents and have posted many photos on my Facebook page.

The City has a lot of clean up to do and I've included Mayor Koch's update and the contact information for the major utilities below. Stay safe, Margaret
City of Quincy Storm Cleanup Update

Mayor Thomas Koch advised residents to leave tree branches and limbs curbside on their regular trash day this week for a coordinated cleanup effort led by the Park Department and Public Works.

The City will mobilize additional clean-up crews, including private contractors, throughout the week, while the primary focus for the remainder of Sunday and likely into Monday morning will be emergency response to fallen trees and limbs.

On Sunday and Monday, residents should continue to call the Emergency Operations Center to report fallen trees or any other storm-related issues at 617-376-1105. On Tuesday, residents should begin calling the regular Park and Forestry office line at 617-376-1251.

The City led clean up will not affect regularly scheduled yard waste pickup by Capitol Waste next week.

 Utility Contact Information

Utility companies factor in the call volumes when determining repair priorites. So, please call/email your utility companies to add your voice to the list of calls for any utility outage.

Read this article for weather related tips. One of the more important tips included is for people who depend on electric-powered life support equipment, such as a respirator, to inform National Grid.
