"Cleaner Greener exemplifies the spirit of our community with neighbors helping neighbors and often multiple generations working together. Ward One has the most sites of any ward and consistently has strong participation. I hope to see you Saturday."

Greetings!

The 22nd annual Cleaner, Greener Quincy citywide cleanup day will take place this Saturday, May 7th from 9 a.m. to 12 noon with some locations being starting on Friday afternoon and evening.  This annual cleanup is dedicated to sprucing up our city's park, beaches, schools, marshes, and open space areas.

Residents are encouraged to join a cleanup site in their neighborhood. The Park Department will also support the cleanup effort by providing the necessary tools including rakes, brooms, gloves and other equipment. In addition the Department of Public Works and private contractors donating their services will be on hand to haul refuse and other debris collected throughout the day.

Following the cleanup, Mayor Koch will host an appreciation cookout for all volunteers at Pageant Field at 12:30 p.m. Hannaford Supermarket will sponsor the cookout, donating all the food, paper goods and beverages for the barbecue.

Lots of help is needed at various locations throughout Ward One and this is a great opportunity for kids to help parents cleaning up the parks and they take a lot of pride in their efforts in caring for the locations throughout the season on their visits to beaches and playgrounds with their friends.

Ward One has the most Cleaner, Greener locations, in most part due to the strong commitment of our neighborhood associations. I will be visiting each Ward One site and appreciate all the work done by you, our volunteers to make Ward One, Cleaner and Greener. Margaret

With substantial coastal storms this winter, there is a significant amount of debris clean up needed to get our beaches ready for the summer. In partnership with the Park Department and Public Works, heavy equipment will be helping out in Houghs Neck at Edgewater Drive and Perry Beaches, in Merrymount at Chickatabot/Norton Road beaches, in Post Island at Shoreside Beach and at Germantown at Sandy Beach. We ask that neighbors to these beaches start their clean up efforts on Friday as low tide is 8:45am on Saturday and the equipment operators plan to get an early start. Please rake debris and drag any driftwood into piles to save time when the loaders are on site.

Want to help coordinate a site cleanup? Equipment may be picked up at the Parks Department on Friday or starting at 7am on Saturday.
