"Please support the QFD/QPD 4th Annual Charity Cup TONIGHT at Quincy Youth Arena." |
Greetings!
The Quincy Police and Quincy Fire Department will face off tonight in their 4th Annual Charity Cup. I am honored to be emceeing this event and hope you join us. This weekend is full of activities with the Quincy Environmental Network's Earth Day Festival, Boy Scout Bottle Drive, Census Rally and Father English's Anniversary Celebration.
I usually mention the business news first and have reversed the order, so please make sure to scroll down to learn about emergency repairs to the MWRA infrastructure to take place next week in Merrymount. Together with the MWRA, I will host a public meeting on Monday at 6pm to discuss the project. Next week the City Council will hold three subcommittee meetings on Public Works, The Souther Tide Mill and Finance. Construction on the Neponset River Bridge begins on Monday.
Quincy Animal Shelter is a non-profit organization with a great group of volunteers who could use your support. QAS will host Quincy's annual rabies clinic on April 17th. Think Spring, Margaret |

| Ward One U.S. Census Rally at Adams Shore Library
Sat, 1-3pm |
|
|
Join the US Census team for a rally on Saturday, April 10th at the Adams Shore Library from 1-3pm.
Have you sent your 2010 Census in?
Monitor Quincy's completion rate at:
Currently, Germantown and Adams Shore back beach area is at 60%, Merrymount including the Quincy High School and Thomas Crane Library neighborhoods is at 62% and Houghs Neck, Post Island and Adams Shore front beach area has a return rate of 65%. The current national return rate is 64%. OUR GOAL is to beat the 2000 census return rate of 72%.
CENSUS DEADLINE is Monday, April 19th. After which time, census employees will be knocking on doors of addresses who didn't return the completed form.
Census Information helps determine locations for schools, roads, hospitals, child-care and senior citizen centers.
Businesses use census data to locate supermarkets, shopping centers, new housing and other facilities.
The census determines how many seats each state will have in the U.S. House of Representatives and the boundaries of legislative districts.
The participation of all residents of Massachusetts is vital to the success of ensuring a national complete count. It is particularly important to achieve a complete count in Massachusetts, not only to ensure that we receive our fair share of more than $440 billion in annual funding for vital services, but also because we stand to lose a congressional district.
PLEASE complete the 2010 Census:
Participation isn't just important-it's mandatory. |
